"Hampden in top form," as one taster put it — grilled pineapple, ripe banana, mango and citrus wrapped in well-integrated oak. The nose runs milder than you'd expect from a <>H, but the palate turns creamy and intense, all funky esters and tropical fruit. At 61.2% the alcohol is mostly tucked in, though a couple of members felt it poked through.

This TRC is significantly more complex than its older brother. The nose is not quite as beguiling, but the fruit, wood and spice harmonize perfectly on the palate. That's how it should be 🤩. This truly is a diamond in the rough. Once rested it is really fruity with esters and nice wood. The palate is both intense and balanced and the ABV is well integrated. The empty glass is absolutely amazing.

So after the 2014 <>H for comparison, again this one from the glorious 2001 vintage. A very unfair comparison basically, but although this was only stored continentally, really very very good. Caught the right moment to take it out of the barrel. The Rum Cask always prove their good hand with stuff like this.

Controlled esters on the nose, very ripe pineapple, very well integrated wood. A nice acidity and citrus. A very nice entry on the palate, tropical fruits, a buttery and soft side, almost honeyed. The finish is long and balanced, at the very end a medicinal side, too bad! Despite everything, a very beautiful Hampden continental.

Still a good rum, but as Hampden it somehow doesn't really appeal to me anymore. It definitely doesn't reach well over 90 points for me anymore. What happened?? Who knows 🤷🏻.... Anyway, just average for me now.

So again a great Hampden, but for me it doesn't reach the 8.9. I find the alcohol too poorly integrated for that. But otherwise typical Hampden, ester, tropical fruits (pineapple and banana), as well as some solvent.

A great rum, a great vintage. On the nose still rather reserved for a <>H. On the palate then a wonderfully creamy complexity. A true fruit aroma spectacle, wrapped in a pleasant woodiness. Alcohol perfectly integrated, I would buy a bottle anytime. Great experience, thanks to Artur for the sample.

The nose is very fruity with mango, overripe pineapple and banana. There are also floral notes, some olive and vanilla. The palate follows the same. Great bottling with very well integrated ABV.

... Hampden, the legendary Jamaican distillery that besides rum also produces alcohol for perfumes. In all rums from this distillery, you can smell wild esters, after which your whole body soaks up the scent of yellow tropical fruits - mango, papaya, pineapple, peach. One of the rums you "must try before you die".

A really great Hampden. Wonderful balance of fruits and wood, fine sweetness, nice creaminess and very well integrated alcohol. Acidity is also kept in check. Absolutely recommendable!

Back to our special tasting: Battle of Jamaican distilleries – Worthy Park vs Hampden! 3rd and final round – In the left corner, Hampden: The Rum Cask JMH (<>H) 2001 – 61.2% Distilled in 2001, this Hampden aged 18 years under continental climate before being bottled in 2019 by The Rum Cask (German bottler) at 61.2% for 310 bottles (50 cl). Mark JMH which is the broker's mark! Since it's a 2001 and given the aromatic profile, it's clearly a Hampden <>H. An intense and incomparable Hampden nose, with very powerful and distinctive esters, while remaining very soft and mellow: intense notes of grilled pineapple, banana, citrus, almond paste, and bourbon vanilla, but also very light and delicate smoky aromas, as well as orange marmalade. Palate: Boom! Kipik as we love it! In a few seconds, a monstrous note of Hampden Jamaican rum fills the mouth, almost taking it entirely. It is full-bodied, incredibly intense, flavorful, and presents in the mouth all the typical characteristics that make a Hampden unique: a full range of fermented and fruity esters reminiscent of grilled pineapple, banana and citrus, as well as earthy and spicy notes, and salty notes. Finish: The finish takes hours to develop, is still perceptible the next day and resists oral hygiene lol Conclusion: Some things seem sure: the sun rises, the sun sets! Well, this Hampden is a killer...

Oh that is the good old times, if there were any for <>H. A very classical heavy jamaica note of tropical fruit, pineapple and mango. all in glory with ester and deep wood complexities. I really miss these qualities.
