Bloody hell! This is an exceptional rum. One for the true taste explorers - so much going on and so far from your average, run of the mill caramel and baking spice notes. Punches you in the face with tropical fruit and white pepper notes.

On the nose it's pleasant. Lots of tobacco, like a good cigar has been lit nearby. Some tea too, with a little vanilla and a good amount of oak. The palate has lots of leather. This puts me in mind of a cheaper blended whisky. The teas is also still present from the nose. The finish is rather long and does get some more pleasant notes of caramel. I feel bad but for me this was indistinguishable from Bells. Way too much leather on the palate. Batch 3 - Bottle 786 of 2207

First Tasting of this bottle (will update this review later with more details) in the new home, surrounded by boxes and the general disarray after moving in. 60 percent approval only? This is not the best Demerara I've tasted, but it does not deserve a rating this low... The first Impression had been mixed, onwards to session three. This rum really needs to breathe in order to bring its flavors, and then does something surprising: besides strong woody notes, being very dry and herbal impressions one gets also some funk and esters, that are quite unexpected. Unfortunately the alcohol has quite a bite and thus reduces the overall score quite a bit. Had the integration alcohol and wood been a bit better this would be quite good, but it is not and thus only 76 points.

180226 Here, 2 years later, I find the bottle more appealing. You get the scent of chocolate when the glass has been standing for 10-15 minutes. But that doesn't change my rating much. After 1 year, I can really feel that my taste buds have changed; I think it has become somewhat better, not least because I've started to love that a lot is happening in the mouth and all the different nuances that come out after leather and lacquer. But it won't be a super glass in my mouth. 😊

So I really like these uncolored Guyanas.😊 For the 39€ asked, a fine drop. The nose is light and round with dried fruits, marzipan, wood and leather, plus mint and black tea aromas, and not to forget the classic gauze bandage😉. The alcohol isn't perfectly integrated, but whatever. The palate is briefly quite sweet, but then suddenly shifts to cask and leather, with a peppery sharpness and bitterness added. It goes quite fast, leaving a woody mouthfeel. Conclusion: not a highlight but an interesting drop that I enjoyed.

Punchy upfront with the alcohol on the first sip. After some resting some of the sweeter burnt sugar and caramel flavours come through a little. I enjoyed trying this after having tasted a selection of Versailles Greenheart rums which has helped for comparison and it was easy enough to recognise and pick out the similar flavours but limited.

Pleasant Guyana but slightly alcoholic, of course that comes with age. Maybe a few more years in the cask wouldn't hurt it :).
