04.05.2024 Retasting during a nice exclusive tasting at Romdeluxe. I stick to my score and I still love it. -------------------------- This is a wonderful rum with a limited to 265 bottles. The destillery is listed as "secret" but the taste is definitely El Salvador. The proof has been so well integrated, that you don't really need to add water to this one. Fruity with spice and a nice hint of oak all the way from the nose to the finish. There is a hint of the bourbon cask as well. Price to quality is very good.

Despite the high ABV, quite mild on the nose. Floral-fruity with a potpourri of tropical fruits and ripe, mealy banana as well as fragrant peach. Slightly soapy with a hint of lavender. Fresh chamomile in the background. On the palate, it has a strong start. Astringent and bitter but at the same time also sweet. Again floral-fruity. Grape with thick skin. Along with clove and cardamom. Also has something metallic, copper. At the end, vegetal towards sesame with violet. Surprisingly good. ABV very well integrated.

Coconut, coconut, coconut. A lot of it. And it keeps going. That is the part that I like! There is some vanilla in scent, what I am not particularly fan of.

I've never had an El Salvador before. For my taste, it goes in the direction of Spanish, in the direction of foursquare/Antigua.

Nose initially reminds me of Foursquare. But at the end I find a little hint of funk. Not Hampden or anything close to the Jamaican gogo bombs, but enough to make it unique and interesting. Lavender pops out to me as well. Attacks the palate quite hard with banana, butter scotch and some vanilla. Good but to me the nose is better. Not a world beater but definitely interesting and good enough to make me wonder why we don't see more rums from El Salvador.

Blind I would guess something between Barbados and Belize, really nice. But knowing it is Salvador I am very pleasantly surprised, because I have never tasted anything great from there. This rum however changes things.
