South Pacific Rum Artesanal Fiji Rum 2001
"Erstaunlich rund für einen Fiji" is the line that keeps coming up — and that's the pitch. Ester, glue and overripe tropical fruit lead, with a strawberries-and-cream sweetness a lot of tasters didn't expect from South Pacific. Underneath: roasted notes, dark chocolate and a dry, faintly metallic finish. At 62.8% the alcohol mostly sits well, though a few say it needs air and a minute to settle.

How does South Pacific Rum Artesanal Fiji Rum 2001 taste?
Aggregated from 94 community reviews.
Rounded, fruity Fiji ester bomb at cask strength One of the top Fijis for most who tried it — funky, fruity and unusually balanced. The only recurring grumble: at cask strength the alcohol can push through before it opens.

on the nose brutally sour funky currant / strawberry cream vanilla cake... really cool! 🍓💥🍰in the taste then clearly smokier, metallic acting with light pineapple and bitter orange / grapefruit notes, as well as a lot of nail polish, glue and recalls nice acidity. in the finish it goes then more towards cocoa, dark chocolate, smoke and then comes again metal and glue around the corner. if the fruit notes on the nose would prevail in the taste a little more, he would be perfect for me. so overall but for me a little too metallic and bitter in the finish...

A beautiful expression of the Fiji Islands. The nose starts timidly with earthy notes, before giving way to an explosion of overripe exotic fruit, phenolic aromas (glue, solvents) of lime, as well as spicy notes and particularly heavy crème au caramel. There's also a touch of smokiness, which offsets the heavy sweetness in the nostrils. The funkiness is back, but fresher and more subtle than in Jamaica. The attack on the palate is gripping, covered by the acidity of the tropical fruit and citrus, and the warmth of the spicy, smoky flavors that embalm the palate. It's a little hard, but the fruit adds a nice roundness all the same. The flavors are fairly well balanced. The alcohol could be a little better integrated. The long finish is warm, bitter and astringent, with some barrel notes, exotic fruit, phenolic and smoky notes, but gains earthy, herbaceous notes and sweetness as it goes on. A beautiful bottle that demonstrates the undeniable expertise of this region of the world, too often overlooked.

Fiji 2001 Community Tasting - big thanks to Jakob for organizing this blind tasting. A great vintage and a comparison not without surprise. For me, the two Artesanal rums, neither of which I drank to the end, brought up the rear. An unpleasant juniper off-note was particularly disturbing (very pronounced in the rx15398, slightly better but still disturbing in the rx7779). Then, for me, the Rum Cask rx479 brought up the rear (i.e. very good / with the right markers), but not as great as the others. Surprisingly, the Isla del Ron, which has had a small reference status in my heart since I tried it, landed in next place for me. But it was overtaken in the blind test by the delicious Whisky Jury (rx13025) and then by the sensational. cave Guildive (rx1717). For me, the Cave Guildive is the winner of the classic Fiji 2002 profile and is really top. I only rated the Flag LMDW Antipodes (rx13440) higher ... this one is much woodier but also ultra-tasty. It was also clearly recognizable blind and made the photo finish millimeters behind the Plantation rx11133, which probably also stood out because it was so un-Fiji2001 and has a great glue-caramel Guyana nose. Verdict: Typical Fiji winners are the Cave Guildive on the fruity-honey-feelgood side and the Flag on the woody. the Plantation is the wildcard winner. The two RA bottlings are the two that remain far below the level of the other two.

Jetzt beim Nach-tasting viel besser. Lecker und echt interessant.

For my taste, a really cool rum, which plays very far up. The previous 2001 bottlings of The Rum Cask I find excellent, the here but actually again ne Schippe drauf. The well-integrated > 60% carries everything. A clear South Pacific profile, matching sweetness, an am light peppery but not at all alcoholic spiciness, independent and complex enough to be exciting. I really hope there are more barrels of this lying around. I personally don't care much for the nose. It actually falls off a bit there in my opinion. Very successful bottling.

RumX Community Tasting Fiji 2001. Incense, vanilla, caramel, cedar, orange, vegetal and yellow fruit. The palate is a little disappointing compared to the nose. The alcohol is a little too present, and the toffee is marked. The finish is long, one-dimensional and caramelized. An unbalanced rum with little fruit, the barrel is too burnt, not to my taste.

Erstaunlich runder Fiji-Rum!

RumX Fidji 2001 Cross Tasting: Very nice representation of the Fidji 2001 profile. Well balanced between dirt, honey and some fruits. Alcohol integration could be a bit nicer, however. Ranked solidly in the middle of the pack for me. Cheers to Jakob!

Lange her seit dem letzten Tasting. Klassische Jahrgangsmarker. Alkohol ist präsent und kraftvoll.

Unfassbar leckerer Fiji. 😋 Tomler Fasseinfluss mit typischen Klebstoff und Teenoten. Ebenfalls tolle Vanillenoten. Im Abgang schöne Schokonoten und Beeren. Leider keine Flasche gekauft. Der wäre es definitiv wert gewesen.

RumX Community Cross-Tasting „Fiji 2001“ (by Jakob): Nicht so ungewöhnlich wie dee andere Rum Artesanal in den Line-Up.
Review by Alex1981
Good Fiji, but needs time. Rather alcoholic before that, but then a nice aroma around fruity, raostaed notes develops. Still a bit disappointing especially on compariaon with the Isla del Ron which was much better

A great rum from Fiji with very own flavors and many esters. Pronounced aroma of strawberry cream candy with a very fine sweetness and creaminess.
