Neisson Extra Vieux
What catches most people off guard here is how soft this agricole drinks for the style. Sugarcane, light wood and vanilla sit on a gentle sweetness, with one taster pulling dark chocolate and hazelnut, another coconut. Several call it balanced and elegant rather than powerful. There's a faint glue note and a touch of alcohol that opens up with time in the glass.
- Balanced and elegant
- Mellow sweetness
- Sugarcane and vanilla

How does Neisson Extra Vieux taste?
Aggregated from 22 community reviews.
Soft, balanced agricole with sugarcane and vanilla Most find it an elegant, balanced agricole — sugarcane, wood and vanilla with a mellow sweetness. The common gripe: it could use more power, and a couple feel the price stings.

#4996 24.12.2024 Enjoying an early Christmas sample. Nose Fresh, light, sweet, sugarcane, light wood, spice, light mineral, light raisin. Palate Fresh, balanced, sweet, sugarcane, light Agricole, light wood, grapes, faint salt, light honey, cinnamon. Finish Long, balanced, sweet, light wood, light roasted, faint salt, raisin, light lemon. The empty glass has light nutts caramel and anise. I'm always amazed at how balanced and complex rums they make and still manage to have a mellow expression that everybody could enjoy.

Truly an exceptional vintage Maybe even better than the XO for me More mellow and less nutty. Tasted at my friend Max's, a return trip that was worth it, that's for sure! Top.

Read full review →This Neisson offers a much more refined and more complex experience. If you are only really familiar with molasses based rums then this may still seem a little odd but it is worth persisting with. There is a definite progression between this and some of the other younger Agricole rhums...
