Dark and heavy in the glass: prune, licorice, burnt caramel, leather and a lot of wet oak, with blood orange and blackcurrant lifting the edges. Several tasters call it complex and rewarding but demanding — give it real time to open. The recurring gripe is heat: at 58.2% the alcohol stays present, and the finish turns bitter for some.

Still quite young and wild. However, with some time in the glass, an exciting VSG emerges. Plummy, dark, licorice and some citrus. On the palate, however, it is still a touch too wild for a top rating.

Must the rum today, two years after the first tasting, but unfortunately downgrade from 85 to 81 points: The alcohol sharpness just does not want to give way properly. On the other hand, beautiful dark bitter notes, leather, herbs. A difficult rum.

On the nose malt, caramel, tobacco, leather, licorice, wood, some pencil shavings and plum. On the palate also heavy and spicy. Well integrated alcohol and at release certainly a rum with top value for money.

Rusted along with the 2006 SBS, the first 2004 RA, and the second 1994 RA - the latter is a bit out of line. If the 2006 is a REV, then so are the 2004 MDXC. There are differences, but are as great between the 2004 bottlings as compared to the 2006.This 16yo 2004 lacks that intense herbal note compared to the 12yo bottling - menthol and eucalypthos barely appear, but dried fruit and plenty of spice with prominent licorice and burnt caramel.The 16yo is much more harmonious than the younger one and also brings a bit more depth. I like it well - a pity that I have not bought a bottle, compared to the 12yo he was almost 100% geteurer, but the 2006 puts another 30% on top 🤷♂️.

Lacks freshness especially on the palate. Bit too pronounced bitterness. Alcohol well integrated. After finishing the bottle, I confirm mixed feelings. This rum is good but the strong bitterness which becomes more pronounced with aeration makes it too dark...

Nice Guyana nose with dried plum and cardamom! On the palate first quite biting but spreads nicely in the mouth, again dried fruits and spices. The barrel influence is good but should not be stronger. Long, slightly bitter aftertaste. Very good, round Guyanese rum.

The dark notes dominate this release. Lots of licorice, malt, roasted aromas and wood. Dark fruits like plum and currants. Very intense and complex notes. Unfortunately the alcohol is very present and the finish is very bitter.

It needs time in the glass. Then it has an intense, woody-spicy nose. Intense blood orange, sulfured apricot, almost plum, dark fruit. Overall dark, caramel, oak with vanilla, cocoa powder, old cola. Also very powerful on the palate, bitter-salty and dry, seems very dark here as well. A bit earthy, almost peaty. Tart oak and then licorice. There is still a slight acidity, as if from black currant.Interesting, but not an easy sipper....

Nice dark Guyana Diamond Rum from Rum Artesanal. Very aromatic and multi-layered on the nose so you can guess how heavy the rum is in the mouth. After the first sip, there is a small flavor explosion with many Guyana facets, I like it very much.

Delicious citrus meets wood, licorice and some leather. A bit bitter on the finish. The alcohol is almost perfectly integrated. Very good VSG.

Unfortunately, I'm not completely convinced because there's a little too much alcohol on the palate. Solid Demerara, but the alcohol note does not allow a higher rating in my opinion.

Personally, I'm a big fan of the Diamond Black's from TRC, so a comparison is very obvious. But as already the 12s from the year 17, I feel this one as much less round and more "special". Especially in the nose, the spicy and woodiness jumps at you literally. This is somehow horny, but also very demanding. Also in the mouth, the spice and woodiness is still very present, but is much more harmonious here. In the end, though, you just have to say that it's already damn tasty. On the palate, he makes a lot of fun and with the competition he can really keep up well

Online tasting at Rum Depot:Great Guyana rum, which was perhaps a little too little to the fore next to the Rockley. Intense, delicious and spicy (prunes or plums wrapped in bacon). A wonderful mouthfeel, great creamy and filling.

In the nose quite restrained, slightly dried fruit, mild and pleasant!On the palate first slightly acidic , blackberry, then an interplay to the woody roasted and spicy! Magnificent nose on a beautiful woodiness, lots of citrus, brown sugar, shoe polish with a nice caramelized note in the background. The same level remains on the palate with citrus, caramel and precious wood in the foreground. The 58% are very well integrated. 😋

Rough Guyana with heavy spice/alcoholic notes. Fairly imbalanced and fails to convince. Even after some time the heat doesn’t settle and overpowers the rest, no chance to enjoy the slight dark fruityness in the background.

#notapro This rum pleases me very much. Its aromatic profile, as basic as the indicated flavors may be, is very complex. Every sip brings out new nuances, making this spirit a pleasantly long drinking pleasure. The alcohol strength is cleanly integrated and underlines the full body of the rum well.
