Clarendon RA Jamaica Rum EMB 1995
Tropical fruit basket, glue and barrel wood, with banana, mint and a roasted, almost meaty edge underneath. This 1995 Clarendon needs a good 20-60 minutes in the glass to open up. Most tasters call it one of the best 95 EMBs around — round, deeply complex, with a long minty-fruity finish. The 67.2% is mostly well integrated, though a few find it too hot and dry.
- Tropical fruit basket
- Long minty finish
- Well-aged complexity

This is for me the almost perfect rum. Balance of maturity and fruit is fantastic. After the Jamaican opening comes surprisingly still a horny lovage note around the corner and pushes again a complexity layer to it. In the mouth best of Clarendon: on the one hand mango, passion fruit and on the other hand the spiciness of coriander seed and menthol. For me, the 67.2% is on point. In the finish everything again but new with horny hop note. For me the best rum I've drunk so far.

An astonishing rum with a brilliant nose! Fruity and oaky at the same time but not at the expense of each other. Coffee, chocolate, quite intense and complex! Would have to be one of the best rums I've had in my glass to date.

The winner of my clarendon 1995 EMB tasting🤤😎🥃 What an amazing rum 😍 Very round, delicious, nice complexity. The alcohol is integrated very well. The long storage bring in a lot of wood but in a balanced way. Some lovely ester notes and fruitbasket in the nose make it welcoming. I like a lot the minty notes in mouth and long finish. Because of the ageing and % i let it rest in the glass for not less the one hour

Nice dry Clarendon. Arrived clearly better on the second run.

After resting this rum for 15 minutes it released a wonderful mix of flavours.Fruity with barrel and spices from nose to finish. I like the oily chocolate on the palate and also the long finish where there is a hint of coffee.

I already knew why I HAD to buy a second bottle of this rum, despite the "robust" price. This is simply a top rum, my personal Clarendon benchmark. And it gets better and better and more multifaceted the longer it is allowed to breathe. Heavenly!

Very intense nose - brilliant. Yet somewhat more harsh than the Velier WK 95 MM. This does continue - less round and elegant than the Velier. On the other hand very intensive more emphasis on milk chocolate and burnt notes. Also a very nice MM going toe to toe with the Velier while the alcohol is not 100% perfectly integrated in this one. Nose: V&M > RA > RC = FSB-BS The lower ABV bottling presents the more fruity and peasant nose straight up. Others significantly more heavy, dark and sharp. Palate: [Velier] > RA > RC > FSB-BS > V&M On the palate I have to give it to the higher proof combatants as they are all properly evil in what they do. However, imho V&M bottled their cask at the exact right ABV to enjoy the EMB right from the bottle.

Tropical fruit on the nose, with lots of banana, but also wood glue, oak and a hint of ferment that carries through to the palate. The attack is straightforward, and immediately the fruit is there, complex and rich. The glue has faded into the background, but the wood is still very present. There's a roasted, umami quality. The whole forms a beautiful, coherent and balanced whole. The alcohol is perfectly integrated too. I was very surprised to see such a high ABV! The finish lingers for a long time, with the same flavors slowly fading. A very fine rum, perhaps too woody for some, but for me it's perfect!

Always a highlight. For me, the best EMB from 1995 so far

Nose: after about 40 minutes in the glass, I have associations with heavy long pond rums of the Marks TECA and TECC with fermented tropical fruit - wicked! On the palate, a nice mix of herbs, fruits, black tea and a little licorice. The barrel notes are strong but fortunately not review. The finish could have been a little longer and more intense for such a long aged rum. But it is very harmonious to the impression on the palate. An excellent rum. The Colours of Rum Clarendon N°2 from the same vintage I like a little better because of the more intense fruitiness.

Give it time and it will thank you for it. The right rum for a long evening. Needs a lot of time to open up, but then the woody notes fade a little, (overripe) tropical fruits (papaya!) and the wonderful roasted note emerge. The finish is then quite dry and slightly astringent, it becomes a little salty and there is also a hint of (dried) herbs. A pleasure that is everything but boring. 😋

Simply great aromatics: the long aging adds a lot of complexity without becoming too bitter or otherwise overpowering the flavor profile. Fruit esters and wood embedded in a lovely sweetness...theoretically conceivable that you might not like this - but would make no sense. For me, this is great cinema. In direct comparison with the Tara and the Rum Club again a little more unfiltered fruit and menthol. The bottling remains an absolute top representative from Clarendon.

Nice and fruity. Barrel comes through well. After a longer time in the glass comes a minty freshness and at the same time pleasant tobacco notes. Alcohol quite well integrated.

For me the highlight of the new RA releases!
Review by Piotr Ignasiak
The nose is full of tannins, nuts and sour notes. Palette is creamy, fruity (exotic), soury, smoky, some coffee, herbs and tannins again. a very intense expression compared to '10 EMB, maybe fruits are a bit less pronounced here, also a touch of sulphur at the end. Given the alcohol strength this is very well integrated, but I benefited from some drops of water. Thanks alot Tobias for sharing a sample.
Review by Agricoler
This is definitely a really fine drop. Incredibly intense vanilla sweetness with woodiness and plenty of tropical fruit as well as beautiful esters. The mint note also complements the rum perfectly. The taste is then noticeably more spicy. Significantly less bitterness than the Tara. The nose is completely retained in the taste. Great rum with an everlasting finish.
