This Karukera L'Expression was in Slot #14 in my advent calendar. It’s produced on the Domaine du Marquisat in Sainte Marie, Guadeloupe. It was distilled in July 2019 and placed in new French oak barrels for 8 months, thereafter it’s transferred to ex-cognac barrels for 6 months and finally bottled 1 month after that. The nose is fruity, round, woody, spicy and floral with scents of orange, citrus, honey, coffee and vanilla. At the palate it’s smooth, complex, sweet, woody, fruity, spicy, roasted and a little nutty with flavors of vanilla, chocolate, coffee, pepper and hazelnut. The finish is medium long, with the flavors persisting.

Vendu au prix d’un rhum vieux, avec le packaging d’un rhum vieux mais c’est un rhum d’à peine 1 an. Obtenir une telle coloration acajou en si peu de temps est impossible. Il s’agit d’un blanc avec beaucoup de sucre et des colorants comme les Don Papa. Il se boit du coup très facilement car peu agressif vu la teneur en sucre mais c’est pour capter un marché d’amateurs de rhum débutants. A déconseiller pour les connaisseurs !
