For a rum with real added sugar, this Panama column-still bottling leans drier and woodier than you'd expect, with vanilla, caramel and a creme brulee edge that a few tasters even likened to a bourbon-style finish. Most people find it simple and a bit rough or hot on its own, but perfectly happy poured over ice with cola.

Extremely unpleasant. I don't like it at all. The whole smell/taste combo reminds me of some heavy old lady perfume. Very floral, oddly perfumed on the nose. Then peppery sharp and alcoholic on the tongue. So it's not my thing at all.

A little Abuelo tasting. Somehow I like this rum. A nice vanilla and caramel note here too. Slightly sweet, but completely ok. Not quite as good as the previous two, but still better than the classic average rum.

I like the fruity nose a little better than the complex but average palate. More individual aromas develop in the finish. Nothing disturbs here, simple and delicious.

A nice sipper. Nothing special but for the price it's really not bad at all. More woody than fruity. The taste and finish bring strong creme brulee notes for me.

A very sweet rum. Weak on the nose. The taste is mainly sweet, otherwise there is not much to taste. Then a slight roasted aroma in the short finish. All in all, a very one-sided rum for my taste.

Surely good for cocktails, but for me on its own it feels like an unripe rum that still needs to mature. It's a bit raw, maybe that's the right word. Entry-level rum, nothing more.

A strong, woody, unsweet rum. With a bourbon/whisky finish. I didn't like it much on its own, but it's excellent for a short drink. 1:1 with cola/pepsi and ice. Great. (I'm a rumbeginner, not a pro)
