TCRL Trinidad #37 2001
Sip this neat and slow — it hits with a wall of mint and menthol, the signature of these 2001 TDL casks. Behind it: black tea, mineral, licorice and a dry, slightly medicinal edge, like a "Mojito für Erwachsene." Several tasters rank it among the better 2001s for its fresh, vegetal twist, though one found it a touch too easygoing for a TDL.
- Huge mint-menthol
- Fresh vegetal note
- Great alcohol integration

How does TCRL Trinidad #37 2001 taste?
Aggregated from 41 community reviews.
Minty, menthol-heavy dry Trinidad sipper Loved by mint fans — full menthol, tea and mineral with a dry, medicinal finish. One of the fresher, more vegetal 2001 TDLs; a few wanted more rough edges.

I had high hopes for this rum and they were not disappointed. It's the full mint-menthol charge, with a nice helping of Indian chai with candied ginger, plus bitter citrus and some green peppers. Classy! In the mouth, similar profile of mint, tea and a salty-vegetable note - not the highest complexity, but nice balance of dirt and easy-sipping. 17 years of tropical aging and wood and alcohol super integrated.Finish like an anise Fisherman's Friend 🤪🤤🤩Found it so good, had to empty the whole sample right away.Tasted again together with the RA 2001: The RA is dominated by dirt and gasoline, the TCRL by citrus, green peppers and caramel, which stands out clearly just in contrast. I like the profile of the TCRL more. Thanks, Frederic!Edit:In crosstasting, I tried the RA, TCRL, Nobilis, Plantation Antipodes and the new Rasta Morris. The rums are incredibly similar - esp the Nobilis and RM are barely distinguishable. The RA stands out because of the dilution, the Plantation is clearly marked by the cognac barrel - it moves it closer to the 2003s - and the TCRL is the freshest, with an unusual herbal note. It was somewhat reminiscent of the 2002s including the falernum note. The TRCL stands out. It is much brighter than the other 2001s and brings that awesome herbal note. In the mouth it opens up with an acidity that is fresher than beilden others. The alcohol integration is top notch. Tonight it is the best of the 5.Points 2There will be individual or paired sessions again because I always find such large crosstastings difficult and the specific notes are eaten by the similarities .

Wow, full blast of mint on the nose. On the palate, the typical mint note of the 2001 T.D.L bottlings continues. The mouthfeel is creamy and intense. Like a "mojito for adults." 😜Who stands on mint comes here fully at his expense. Very good T.D.L!

On the nose first very clear TDL notes from the vintages 2001-2003, nice fresh mint, menthol, tea, slightly spicy and some wood. On the palate immediately minty, menthol, black tea and a mineral note, it remains dry. There is a hint of sweetness, possibly caramel. But before you taste that, there is a hint of liquorice. For me, this bottling is a great success.

Very expressive, concentrated nose. Very ripe exotic fruits (mango, papaya and also peach) and motor oil that flirts with essential massage oils. A touch of homemade caramel custard. A beautiful woody bousiné. A heavy TDL that comes close to a Caroni HTR 98. A camphorated mouthfeel, as we like with this vintage. Lots of lychees. Fresh. Exotic fruit dominates (mango, star fruit). Medium-length astringent finish compared with other 2001s (RM, RA). Damp herbs when the glass is empty. Verdict: I prefer this TCRL to the antipodean plantation LMDW 2001, but a notch below the magnificent Rasta Morris. Current ranking of 2001 TDLs tasted to date: RM > caksus > RA batch 1 = TCRL > plantation

Super TDL, peppermint on the nose, blackcurrant, a bit of tar, warm woody notes but crushed just right, nice balance, very good!
