Savanna Unshared Cask for Germany 2006
Glue, varnish and toasted dried fruit hit first, then ripe banana, fig, ginger and black pepper over a dry, tobacco-and-burnt-oak base. This is a wild, astringent Savanna HERR-style beast at cask strength. Fans of the distillery call it "total wild" and geek out on it; one taster found it too atypical to actually enjoy. Not gourmand, not easy — a puzzle to pick apart.

01.05.2021 Only have notes on this one. Nose: wood, roasted, medicinal, fruity, glue, citrus. Palate: wood, spicy, citrus, fruity, cinnamon. Finish: long and warm, pineapple, spice, earthy, mint.

On the nose, the alcohol is superbly integrated, which will delight savanna fans. Requires a few minutes of aheration The palate is a little more disconcerting: the alcohol is less well integrated and notes of soap/solvent can surely be felt on the nose.

The nose is industrial, with varnish and glue. Ripe, very ripe fruit. Toasted dried fruit and dark chocolate. On the palate, there's yellow fruit (banana, fig...) but above all spice (ginger-pepper). Rather dry, with tobacco notes. The finish is long on burnt wood and olive. This aromatic profile is very singular, and far from greedy. It's very atypical and I didn't really like it. I didn't really enjoy this rum, apart from trying to unravel the aromas.
