Sugarcane honey, rum-soaked raisins, tobacco and a warm oak note from the Bielle cask — this is a Sajous clairin that's been tamed. Interesting clairin. The Bielle barrel comes through well, but perhaps too much of the typical clairin note is masked!

Franconian Tasting Gang on 23.11.24 at Jarek. A positive surprise for me in the evening, as this is not necessarily my favorite corner of rum. But I have to admit that I really enjoyed it.

Hard to find, I wanted this bottle exactly because I was already disappointed by Velier's Haitian. A pastry nose with sugar cane and funky (ex Jamaican rum barrel?). On the palate we find the funky with woody, banana and rum grapes which still reminds us of Jamaica.Very disappointing and volatile at the opening, it has mellowed and complexified with oxidation and time.A very good idea the aging in rum cask. Better than younger Sajous and more interesting than an older clairin.

8,8:On the nose, the first impression we get is an agricole like, with sugarcane honey, minty and musty, dried fruits like raisins, prunes, roasted wood with nuts, caramel, confectionery and some solvents.Very round. On aeration, citrus fruits come in, more vegetal aspect of the cane with flowery, herbaceous tones, tea and tobacco, very late joins chilli.Waxy tannins are also evident. 8,7:On the palate, the attack is fresh, tasty with sugarcane juice, honey, a bit mineral, roasted wood with nuts and caramel, the fruits are dried with currants, prunes, after resting the rum with apricots, maybe peaches.It also shows more Clairin with vegetal olive, brine, herbaceous and flowery notes, air allows mint to express, tobacco, vanilla and citrus fruits and some esters. 8,7:The finish is long, more dry, tannic, with additional notes like fermented strawberry, confectionery, hay and a whiff of smoke.. #5183 29.03.2025 Running through some samples at home. Nose Fresh, light, light wood, sugarcane, faint smoke, dried fruit, light earthy, light banana. Palate Oily, fresh, light, light wood, light earthy, sugarcane, light floral, light vegetal, fruits. Finish Medium long, round, oily, fruits, light floral, faint grass, sugarcane. Empty glass Sugarcane, light caramel, light citrus, light floral.

Delicious Sajous, which definitely brings a new twist with the Bielle barrel. Both matured characteristics and original characteristics of the base material come through. Definitely something for everyone who likes matured rums and the Clairin base material.

A disguised and original Clairin that bets on elegance rather than power. The nose is extremely balanced and complex for only 3 years of aging. You would think of a Bielle with notes of honey, sugarcane and spices accompanying an opulent and creamy raisin. The herbal and roasted notes on tobacco complete a rum full of finesse and accuracy. Stunning. The attack on the palate is still in the elegance and refinement of the agricole type, with honeyed notes on the cane, caramel, raisins, soft spices (vanilla, pepper), tobacco and lightly roasted oak. The barrel however brings a bit of bitterness, astringency and volatility, and the Bielle does not go unnoticed. The alcohol is well integrated. The finish is of correct length, with the same sweet, agricultural and roasted notes. You feel a form of alcoholic and tannic warmth in the mouth, accompanied by the softness of fruity and honeyed aromas. The Bielle barrel tends to take over the clairin, but the balance and clarity of the profile excuse this slight flaw.

A Clairin in a Bielle barrel, wow really interesting. Clairin is a bit missing here though. Besides herbs and sugarcane, it is very roasted on the nose. On the palate then mostly woody thanks to the oak...

Franconian Tasting Gang - 23.11.2024: I've had the bottle open for a while and it has done the rum very well. It has become gentler and tamer, almost mild. The alcohol is better integrated now, the Bielle cask comes through even better and grape notes appear, reminiscent of a former wine cask. The very dark and reddish color for its age also points in this direction. Today the rating is slightly raised!

Still the best Clairin I've had in the glass. Certainly not the most complex and the influence of the Bielle cask overshadows the character of the Sajous. But I really like the cask influence. Mild, easy drinking, pleasant sweetness, fruitiness and all at a very fair price.

On the nose it presents with cane sugar, herbs, fermented notes, leather, lightly toasted wood, dried fruits, tobacco, and raisins. On the palate it basically brings back the same aromas, but in different proportions. The Bielle influence is noticeable even in the finish (and I like it), the aftertaste remains slightly dry. My first rum, Sajous, is one of the most delicious rums I've ever tried (love at first try), one of the most delicious tobacco in taste and on the nose among rums. it's delicious blackcurrant and very creaminess.

Expressive Clairin with a clear Sajous signature. On the nose sugarcane, herbs, some citrus and a slightly fermented note. On the palate intense, bitter and spicy with earth, pepper and a warm wood note from the Bielle cask. The fruit remains rather restrained, but the rum shows a lot of character and energy. Overall an exciting, rustic Clairin with a clear identity.

For me, still the reference matured Clairins. Perfect balance between distillate and barrel, complex, independent and intense, with well integrated alcohol. At the issue price, a fantastic PLV.
