Flowers, grass and chamomile lead the nose here — one taster even called it almost Chartreuse-like, all alpine herbs and gentian. There's a mild sweetness of mango and banana underneath, and at 49.4% it stays surprisingly gentle. The palate turns markedly herbal and vegetal, which is where opinions divide: several find it a touch too planty, while others rank it among their favorite Clairins.

Comparative series of old Clairins. A very alpine nose with génépi and gentian, very floral almost like a Chartreuse. On the palate the gentian returns with its bitterness, but also aromatic plants. The finish is short and bitter with gentian. Blind, not sure this is a rum! Retasted and I raised the score a bit Thanks Dr. Django for the sample.

Outside we have about 40 degrees, so the fruity short-aged Clairins with low abv come just right. Rocher: funky fruity, smoky, similar to incense sticks. A bit grassy. 80 points. Vaval: milder and sweeter, with a bit of menthol. Short, somewhat sharp finish. 76 points. Casimir: mild fruity, sweetish, short finish. 75 points.

I really like the nose. It's somehow very floral, very grassy, comes across really fresh and smooth. On the palate then a bit disappointing, here it tastes a bit too much like herbs and plants to me.

#7145 09.08.2026 Just got a box with lots of Haiti rums and I just love the benchmark as they're usually always really good. Listening to some nice Psy Trance on Spotify. Very nice and well balanced Clairin with a good price tag. Balanced profile with olive, sugarcane, salt, fruits, light funk, spice, grass, wood and some licorice.

Clairin Cosstasting Vol. 2 with Sajous 22 months (RX7920) Vaval 22 months (RX7929) The nose is great. Yellow stone fruit, violets, flowers, a touch of perfume, but not so intense and by no means unpleasant or even artificial. A pleasant sweetness of mango and bananas. Also very convincing on the palate. Here, too, it is clearly plant-based, and once again reminds me of (rose) blossoms, perhaps due to the nose and expectations. A mild sweetness of honey and sugar cane and tropical fruits. The cask influence forms a nice counterpoint to the sweetness here. Surprisingly intense despite the 49.4%. Definitely one of my favorite Clairins to date. From memory, it is also clearly ahead of the winner Le Rocher. Even though they are so different, I will compare the two again directly.
