Sipped neat at cask strength, this is a 24-year Hampden that leans woody more than wild. Ripe pineapple leads, backed by ester, vanilla and roasted oak, with an oily texture one member could smell "from the other side of the table." The alcohol is well integrated for 62%. A faint medicinal edge and light bitterness show up on the palate for some.

I love these high ABV releases from Kill Devil because they usually hit the mark. From opening the bottle you get the fruity ester notes and as the poured rum "cures" in the glass the flavours can be picked up from the other side of the table. I love the oily texture and the nice roasted woody notes that blend very well with the fruit and spice notes.

Although the HLCF Mark is not exactly my absolute favorite at Hampden, I have to admit that this is a very well-made bottling that is really fun. Nice pineapple notes.

Balanced nose with tropical fruits, spices, wood and esters. The palate is dominated by trop. Fruits, especially pineapple, plus esters, wood and unfortunately also medicinal notes and a slight bitterness. Good 92 HD, but not Champions League.

The 92-proof Hampden from Kill Devil falls a bit short compared to the RumClub and CDI bottlings. Clearly more wood and the alcohol is just well integrated. Simply not as excellently balanced. Still a very good Hampden though.

A fantastic Hampden. I like it very much. The nose is complex and besides esters also has smoke, bacon and strong associations with white gummy bears. That's fun. On the palate super creamy with nice barrel influence. The finish is long and intense without becoming too dry. Absolutely top.
