This is an expensive drop and the price is probably high because of the rareness of the release and what it celebrates. Overall the rum is well balanced, lightly sweet and kind of light. Fruity with spices and caramel on top. Would be a nice collectors item in my mind.

Vanilla, dried fruits, and typical Agricole notes come forward. In taste incredibly round, complex, and simply delicious. The mentioned notes are complemented by orange peel, cherry, and raisins. It's definitely a very good blend and a special one. The price-performance ratio is of course terrible.

From the 250th Edition you expect a lot. Smell is appealing and agricole comes through well. Fruity and slightly woody, but tastes very watered down and the finish is boring. Slightly fuzzy on the tongue. PVL miserable.

Very tasty Saint James even if it’s not a total revelation. Simply a really tasty Agricole but for me absolutely difficult price-wise. You can get significantly better Saint James for less money.

So today it's time to taste this delicacy from Martinique. Saint James Cuvée du 250e Anniversaire. This exceptional decanter was created in 2015 for the 250th anniversary of the brand. Marc Sassier and Myriam Bredas combined six prestigious vintages: 1885, 1934, 1952, 1976, 1998, and 2000. The oldest and youngest components are separated by an incredible 115 years. Only 800 decanters were made, each with a volume of 0.7 liters and strength of 43%. Of course, it is an AOC rhum agricole from Martinique, meaning rum made from fresh sugarcane juice, not molasses. It is a rarely assembled and historically exceptional blend, and I must admit that taste-wise it does not even come close to much younger and fuller-flavored bottles. Here those 43% do not do what Saint James normally can. So rather a weaker than fuller bottle. Great for display, nothing special for drinking. But I understand, we drink the story and history and mainly buy the decanter.
