Neat it's almost too much straight from the bottle at nearly 61% — a good glug of water opens it right up. Expect dark tar, wood varnish, smoky molasses and vanilla, with raisins and a touch of sweet banana hiding underneath. Several tasters call out glue-and-varnish funk and an oily, "very long finish." A dark, heavy single-cask Vendome that rewards patience and a drop of water.

Chairmans Reserve is one of my favorites in the rum world. Today a little wild tasting between 4 representatives. 1st UK Rum Club 2011, 9yr An average Chairmans on my tongue, which is basically already very good. Red fruits, citrus fruit, burnt sugar, spices and wood set the tone here. The alcohol is well integrated. 84 pts. 2. cigar store, 2010, 11yr Astringent on the palate and with a special musty wood-fruit note. Very tasty and also unusual. The finish is medium long with burnt sugar and fruit. 86 pts. 3. royal mile, 2011, 9yr Very smooth creamy on the palate, with more herbs than its peers. Dirty notes. 86 pts. 4th WuDramClan, 2009, 14yr Somehow a mixture of all the representatives of the tasting. Initially weak on the palate, then increasingly astringent and very dry, with lots of fruit, becoming increasingly herbal and woody with time. Very interesting, complex Chairmans. 87 pts.

Strong product. Reminiscent of gyanne. Lots of roasted woody notes with dried fruits such as prunes and raisins. Almost whisky-like due to the smoke. The note lingers on the palate for a long time. You should try it at least once.

06.11.2021 Another visit to "Den Danske Rom & Whiskyfestival and once again with special access and many very drunk people both days. Notes. Very nice release with good overall balance. Lightly fruity and intense with medicinal notes. Oily palate with spicy touch. Very long and warm finish.

At the Community Tasting Nuremberg, the big cross-testing of the Chairman’s bottlings was declared the motto. First of all, I liked them all. Until then, I only knew the bottling from Kirsch and Perola. I was surprised that the taste profiles were so different and yet there was no really bad one, but also none that really stood out from the others. But when you see what you get for your money with Chairman’s in return, I really have to say CLASS. I will probably expand my collection in this area without guilt.

Chairman’s tasting with 3x Vendome (Evanius Harris, RMW, Rum&Co), 1x Vendome & John Dore Blend (Nectar) and 2x John Dore (Kirsch, Rum Exchange). The Vendome bottlings are a bit dirtier and medicinal, the John Dore fruitier. Of the Vendome, Evanius Harris was the most harmonious for me. Among the John Dore, Rum Exchange would have won if it weren’t so woody (best on the nose), so I liked Kirsch better. Overall, the No. 1 was the Nectar, which combined the best of both styles, mild, tasty and perfectly matured. Here the alcohol was too dominant compared to Evanius Harris.

Big flavours here. St Lucia is not for the weak. In the nose a somewhat French Oaky roasted banana feel. A bit of funk. Not unlike Worthy Park. Complex. Lovely. Taste: Boom! Elegant and intense both. Tropical fruit. Still the French Oak. Rubber. Flowers. There's so much here. Really really good.

On the nose, the vendome that impressed me less on my 5 chairman's reserve lineup. On the other hand, drinking it was way better, with a taste driven by nice glue and varnish notes. Was the nose on the same level, it would have been a clear winner.

Another great St. Lucia, for its 9 years already very much on the mature side. Fantastically balanced nose, on the palate with typical notes as well as wood and caramel, the fruits are rather dark and in the background. Great alcohol integration. St. Lucia can do no wrong!

The nose is very big and intense. Lots of dark tar notes with smoky molasses and vanilla. A touch of sweet banana in the background. Neat this is too much to handle on the palette so at this point I'm adding a good glug of water. After the water the palate is beautifully dark. Lots of tar and wood varnish. Raisins, tobacco and vanilla. Very moreish. The finish is quite long. The darker notes mellow out and leave menthol and a suggestion of aniseed. A beautiful rum. Deep, dark and heavy. It just needs that water.
