Sip it neat and give it real air time — fresh from the bottle it comes off sour, fermented, even cheesy, and several tasters flag sulphur and "old sock" on the nose. Let it breathe and it opens into tropical fruit, apple, honey and burnt sugar, with a woody, spicy, roasted palate. A hot, spanish-style Cuban that improves in the glass but stays a bit one-dimensional.

8:On the nose, the wood is toasted, roasted with caramel, nuts and burnt sugar, a molasses is vegetal with sap, spices like pepper pop up, there are a lemon, an apple. On aeration, molasses brings tobacco and mint, quite strong honeyed, perhaps candied banana arises, some cardboard, cheese notes. 7,6:On the palate, the attack is sweet and roasted, toasted with wood notes like burnt sugar, caramelized, perhaps crème brûlée, nuts, chocolate, the molasses brings sap, earthiness, from fruits, banana is the skipper, then dried fruits and later stone fruits.With resting the rum, wood is a bit resinous, more spicy with cinnamon, nutmeg, anise, molasses vegetal with tea, tobacco. 7,8:The finish is more balanced, round, fruitier with banana, raisins, dried currants, dry and fresh, a bit smoky and creamy with roasted wood notes, still spicy... Note: Employment at Perola GmbH (spirits industry), partial professional involvement with evaluated bottlings. All reviews are my personal, unpaid opinion. Freshly opened, brutally sour, unpleasantly fermented, cheesy.... taste-wise not as awesome and complex as the 9-year-old in direct comparison. Less fruit, but more resin, leather saddle, tobacco, and cocoa. On the plus side, there's some old banana, honey, and coffee, and it's a bit more drinkable. The caramel candy DNA remains though! But the 9-year-old is definitely better!

Unfortunately, too alcoholic and edgy. From the freshly opened bottle unpleasant sulfur and cheese associations. 🫣More pleasant on the palate.

And the last one for today. Nose is still okay, tropical fruits + lemon, as well as very vegetal. On the palate rather woody anddddd spicy. Pretty bad actually this CDI. But whatever, gotta get them all done.

The smell initially seems a bit off-putting and not very appetizingly fermented. Letting the rum breathe brings tropical fruits, apple and a certain sweetness. On the palate it's clearly better; here come spicy and wood aromas, tropical fruits and burnt sugar. The finish is smoky with coffee notes.

Found in Jarek's cabinet because I had to have a nightcap before I was allowed to leave. Neat, it's not really my thing, but as a mixer for a Cuba Libre it's quite suitable, although there are better ones.

On the nose a rather boring, typical Spaniard, which surprises a bit on the palate. The 57% ABV still feels a bit sharp but delivers a comparatively intense taste, which convinces especially with some rusty aromas. For Cuba (at least based on my previous experiences) quite complex and intense.

Dark gold Smell: Lightly sweet, floral (chamomile, straw, wet rotten grass), vanilla Fermented, sour, quince Smoke Woody (virgin cask) Taste: Freshly opened astringent and dry in the mouth. After standing for one day rather sweet. Spicy alcoholic when swallowed. Fruity (pear) with some caramel. Woody Finish: Medium length Dry, spicy, woody and somewhat fruity. 80 points The sample benefited significantly from standing half full for one day. The taste is now much rounder.

Initially a bit biting on the nose. Metallic fresh with lime and lemon balm. Even has something resinous. Stays on the fruity side with apple and gets an interesting cocoa note in the middle. On the palate, the Spanish style comes through. Muted fruit, metallic, caramelized and a bit green towards tea. But still somewhat simple and one-dimensional. Not my thing, too little challenging...

After about two hours in the glass it gets a very unique scent note that reminds of fruit chewing gums. Not uninteresting, but on the palate I miss the wow effect that the nose still suggests. Taste-wise overall a bit too harsh.
