Tasted at the end of a meal alongside an ice cream. It's easy to drink and I found it was a good appetizer before starting a lineup. Woody, dried fruit, and caramel are the main notes.

Ya basic! Very bland and superficial with too much burn for its weight. Hard pass. Wouldn’t even use it as a mixer nowadays…

First tasting, sample: Nose: a quite "Mauritanian" nose (new grove) that strongly reminds me of beach balls the first time you take them out to inflate (plastic and talc?). Also notes of fruit. It goes a bit all over the place. The alcohol comes out quite strong for a rum at 42 degrees. A "warm" nose. Palate: as the nose suggested: warm, dry. Leather, tropical fruits, spices. Quite strong for 42°, quite complex for the price. Finish: burnt caramel, plastic, tropical fruits. Considering that the Dillon 12 years is at 40/45 euros, this one should be priced at 35/40 euros to be interesting to drink neat. Second tasting: July 7, 2026 20cl bottle No more plastic ball smell but tonka bean, spices. A gulpable rum underrated even if... It is better positioned at 45/50 euros than at 55.

My RumRatings review from 6 years ago: The rum is very good on the nose. I was very positively surprised. Fruity, floral notes are immediately recognizable. Grassy agricole elements blend with vanilla and a bit of oak. On the palate and especially on the tongue, the rum is surprisingly sharp. After the first sip, I let the rum breathe for another 15 minutes. The sharpness remains present. All this without an alcoholic edge. Otherwise, the rum is rather dry. Slightly sweet spicy aromas can be tasted on the tongue. Lots of wood influence combines with light floral notes. Vanilla and also a bit of smoke accompany the finish, which is characterized by woody oak notes. If the Riviere du Mat weren't quite sharp on the tongue, we'd have an exciting bottling here. As it is, it loses quite a few points. Too bad.

2.5.2026 Libošovice Vélet XXIX Very gently vanilla scent Taste similar to the smell, not very pronounced, a little sting at the start but not sharp, at the end a little tail of wood.

This is not a sipping rum. Thin and a bit uninspiring on the palate. Light coconut and caramel. A sweet finish with caramel and some juicy apple as well as honey. Not unpleasant just not elevated. Makes a very decent Cuba Libre so that would be my default here
