Levy Lane Versailles Tamosi Kanaima 2004
Sip this neat and slow — it's a dark, spice-driven Versailles built on licorice, burnt sugar, oak and dried figs, with bitter cocoa and coffee on the finish. Several tasters call it "very dark" and herbal-dry, and the cask strength bites until it settles. A few find it too bitter or one-dimensional on the palate; most think the long, roasted finish earns it.
- Complex long finish
- Old-school Versailles profile
- Burnt sugar depth

good Versailles profile, but rather on the spicy side on the way with allspice, tobacco, oak. The (quite sparse) fruity notes go towards dried date and dried apple rings. Similar profile on the palate. In the finish toasty-dry

Ugh, it tastes like soap! Or do I just not like licorice?
Review by Leo Krüper
Strong Versailles. Complex finish with full herbal aroma. Beautiful bottling at a fair price.

I misplaced a few tasting notes a while ago, amongst these was this adolescent Versailles. C: Aged in the tropics or caramel coloured (E150)? I’m not liking this already. N: A blend of Granny apple peel, medium strong coffee, burnt sugar and fumes of petrol. I also get brine, which is typical of Versailles, but here it´s muted. I also get a strong kind of fake sweetness taste that reminds me of bad column still distillation. This make me think that perhaps too much E150 was involved in this single cask. M: Spicy and bitter. Burnt sugar with a sour coffee taste. It differs from Continental aged Guyana pot still rums I’ve tasted lately and that I like so much. There is no freshness here. F: Not long and sour. B: No

Aromas of tobacco, liquorice and raw wood. The taste is the first to catch the eye, and the taste of soap definitely surprises. Licorice, wood and tobacco follow. The whole thing moves into a longer, herbal and very dry finish.

Very horny Versailles!

Too spicy and poorly integrated alcohol level... A big taste of licorice... Not my thing, this one. The nose is very elegant though

Really dark, spicy reduced Demerara essence! Extremely furry and astringent with many tannins and bitter substances, at the same time fresh after various essential oils as in the sauna or a massage. But for me personally definitely too bitter and intense after licorice but still extremely complex and full-bodied. Wicked stuff.

A very good rum that, if the alcohol were better integrated, could play pretty far up!He is more on the spicy side; but that quite well once the alcohol is tamed!

On the nose still relatively restrained, on the palate as strong as an ox. Convincing rum. Congratulations to all who call a bottle their own.

Allem in allem kein gar nicht mal so ein schlechter Versailles aus 2004. Vom Profil her sehr dunkel. Das einzige was ich hier ein wenig zu bemängeln habe ist, dass er mir ein wenig zu bitter ist. Sonst wäre mehr drin gewesen.

In the nose at the beginning raisiny PX notes and iodine. After the first sip, I also get licorice in the nose. This is also found on the palate again, in a viscosity also reminiscent of PX sherry, or here perhaps rather licorice liqueur. Chocolate and bitter-rusty notes are still there, in the finish comes some coffee to it.For me as a Guyana newcomer definitely one of the best I've been allowed to taste so far. But I'm unsure if I like this spicy appearance or if I'm missing some fruit.

Great Versailles! well dirty as I like 🤤 unlike other reviews I find the alcohol pretty well integrated.

Sample problem? Soap of soap of soap...
Review by Rhum Mirror 🇧🇪
The nose is very smoked-toasted-roasted. There is caramelized Guyana molasses, coffee, roasted nuts, ... It is like a gingerbread refreshed by a lemon zest. It is complex and intriguing. In the mouth, it is very concentrated on licorice and prune. We have bitter coffee, empyreumatic notes ... and caramel to sweeten it all. The finish is very long on spices and burnt wood. The mouth does not leave indifferent. It is much more striking than the nose suggested. This very marked finish is very well balanced.

Quite tart profile. Crisp dry - not a flatterer, yet aromatically extremely exciting.

"The finish is long and well rounded with tobacco, olives, spicy oak and a coating of caramel, molasses and some red grapes. It fades out with some really nice notes of liquorice as well. This is a complex full bodied Demerara rum. It's another winner for the Levy Lane Rum..."Read full review →
