Nail polish, overripe pineapple and glue hit first, then the palate turns tart — bitter orange, passion fruit, a little vanilla and oak spice. This is a full-throttle New Yarmouth: ester-heavy, sour, and warming at cask strength. A few drops of water round it off nicely. One taster mistook it for a high-ester Hampden, and several found it a touch less acidic than other funk bombs.

My expectations were 100% fulfilled here. The 2 additional years in the barrel round off the already very cool 2005 New Yarmouth very much, here are almost no more corners and edges to be found and thus becomes extremely sweet! Banana bread, strawberry cream candy & glue meets cookie dough, meets tropical fruits like passion fruit and blood orange, then roasted almonds, some dark chocolate with espresso bean shavings and sea salt and then almost foursquare-like notes of coconut, caramel and banana, all underpainted by beautifully intense esters. Very, very tasty, I really like it!

The nose already makes a clear announcement: Ester full blast! Marzipan, fermented fruit and nail polish. The palate is insanely intense with tropical, (overripe) fruits, varnish and marzipan. With a few drops of water, the nose opens up again and the (brut) rum becomes more approachable. Wow, this high ester rum is really fun!Great representative of Funky New Yarmouth! Since I look forward to a cross-tastings with the rums of CDI.

This one was the odd one out at the tasting and what a way to close the evening. A very fresh and fruity rum once rested. The balance between the flavors is almost a perfect symphony and I like how well the ABV has been integrated. The flavours were there from opening and pouring and the empty glas was really nice at the end of the evening.

Ester impression: Ester level in the red zone 😜 That is also confirmed by a look at the Vidya website: Marque NYE/WM, so on par with HD C<>H. That's how it comes across on the nose too, fermented fruits, sour buttermilk, and plenty of nail polish. Unfortunately, I can't find the fine pastry notes that often come with the high-ester HDs here. On the palate, it's less brutal, more spice (somehow also spices like in peppernuts) and oak barrel. The finish is quite 'digestible' compared to the often quite sour HD high-ester colleagues... I like it overall!

87 points. Very nice nose with a ton of flavors. Even more flavors in the mouth but rather easy sipping. A great NY with tons of nail polish, fermented fruits and a good dose of esters.

Nose: full can of esters! Glue and (overripe) pineapple. A few drops of water make the rum seem rounder.Mouth: very warming with a bitter fruitiness. The barrel is noticeable here. The flavors from the nose repeat powerfully, great!Finish: nice smooth transition to dark chocolate with candied orange peelAn extremely powerful Jamaica rum. I could just smell it for hours, very tasty!

Powerful New Yarmouth with high ester content and intense fruit. On the nose, glue, pineapple and overripe tropical fruits dominate, accompanied by a light citrus note. On the palate, notes of bitter orange, vanilla and a subtle wood spice unfold. The alcohol is well integrated and gives the rum a pleasant warmth. A balanced and complex rum, ranking just behind the SBS.

Confused with a Hampden c<>h... little gem. I like it a lot because it has length, freshness, indulgence... all that without attacking too much either, a bit less acidic than other high esters I've tasted. There's rancid butter, ripe fruits, with solvents a bit less present than on other high esters. Very good.

Read full review →This is a very funky high ester Jamaican rum but the 15 years of ageing have given it an added layer of "aged spirit". I can't think of any other way to put it. I've not had a bad rum from New Yarmouth as yet and this one certainly hasn't...
