Longtime Port Mourant fans and collectors chasing old Demerara are the people this is really for. It's a 44-year 1974 PM at just 46%, and that low strength is the whole story: a rich nose of marzipan, black tea, leather, pencil shavings and dried prunes that most tasters found the thin, dry, tannic palate couldn't quite match. Woody, bitter, almond-driven, with a long dry finish.

An impressive Port Mourant with intense roasted aromas, spices, and subtle hints of marzipan. On the palate, dried fruits, woody notes, and a touch of anise unfold, accompanied by a pleasant bitterness. The alcohol is well integrated and gives the rum a pleasant warmth. A complex and well-balanced rum that expressively showcases the Port Mourant profile.

Exhibition review Village'25 Nuremberg For me one of the few highlights at the fair at the Catawiki stand with Emile. Very nice piece from the "past". Despite its low ABV, it lacks nothing. With even more percentages, it would have the potential to easily break through the 9.

Little look into some 74 PMs: Moon Import / Kingsbury / Skene Whisky. On the nose: Moon comes with a profile I would immediately associate with PM. Anise, wet would and plum. Very nice and rich. Kingsbury shows more sweetness with almonds and a buttery sensation to it. Also very nice. A bit more lively - despite the significantly longer aging. Skene delivers the heaviest Profil. Leather, black tea and herbs. Yet still some sweetness and dried figs. Most demanding of the three but also highest intensity. On the palate: Moon is very nice with rich notes of coffee and dried plums delivered with some sweetness. Kingsbury shows some sweetness again and rich dark notes with lots of wood and leather without being bitter at any point. Skene is more balanced than the Kingsbury. A bit more sweetness and dried fruits alongside the strong wood influence. All in all I go with Moon = Skene > Kingsbury for today.

Very concentrated aromas, almost like Maggi wort. Could perhaps have been released from the barrel a few years earlier. A little too much tobacco, leather and ashtray at the back. Still a great rum

9:On the nose, roasted wood notes, buttery with cream toffee, leather, nuts, molasses with tea and pencil shavings, dried fruits with prunes and figs, citrus fruits, bump into our nosetrils. On aeration, cherries, dried apricots and yellow fruits arise, the molasses becomes flowery, herbaceous, vegetal with fennel, the oak presence is strong, some marzipan is out. 8,8:On the palate, the attack is tasty with tannic, roasted wood and notes like nuts, caramelized Demerara sugar, later butterscotch, leather and milk chocolate, spicy with vanilla and anise, fruits like prunes, dried apricots, raisins, on oxidation plums and peaches, as the molasses brings pencil shavings, black tea, herbaceous and flowery undertones, becomes darker with licorice. 8,9:The finish is dry, tannic, long, even rounder, as the palate notes linger on...

05.03.2022 The yearly event by whisky.dk and one I'll continue to go to. This time with some of my colleagues of which some where whisky drinkers. They got an introduction to Jamaica and they liked it. Notes. This one was hidden at one of our favourite vendors and as soon as I arrived it was pulled out and we got a really good discount on the sample. Lots of wood in the profile without it being too dominant. Light fruit and spices and an oily warm palate. Long and lasting finish with light licorice. Love the marzipan note.

Taken from Emile from Catawiki at the GRF. Bottle was open for less than 2 weeks. Good opportunity to strike and taste 😁 Tasted in direct comparison with the 1974 Moon rx9399 ... Nose: the Moon is more old school PM with plum, espresso, wood&malt, leather and floral lavender & violet notes. The Kingsbury has more tea, marzipan and licorice in it and less plum. Palate: kingsbury ... thin, tea, tannin, licorice & some dried fruit. Far behind the nose. Moon: More plum than the Kingsbury, but also thin and far behind the nose. The bottom line is that both fall short of a beautiful nose and are somewhat thin. moon is more plummy and floral with coffee, Kingsbury more tea & almond with licorice

Yeah, last rum for today. A really great Guyana. I like it a lot. You can recognize a lot of roastiness here, dark chocolate, coffee, but also burnt sugar and anise. A really great rum.

A very light PM, with a rather light texture and light body. Rather lightly fruity, floral, herbaceous and dryly woody. It shows in which direction PM from the 70s is heading, but this profile does not meet the expectations of a connoisseur

Nice piece of history, but the sample is enough for me. Although the aromas come across very concentrated, it seems a bit thin to me, probably due to the low ABV. I just miss a certain sweetness and stronger fruit notes. Those who like wood, spices and marzipan might enjoy this.

Very engaging rum, especially on the nose. On the palate the dilution holds back too much of the aromas of leather, tea, plums and licorice. That's why the rum has no chance against the much younger but impressively stronger PM from Cadenhead's from the same distillation year 1974 (RX1409). Many thanks to Rumurmel for the great sample!

Drinking such an aged rum is always Amazing, distillation took place more than half a century ago. The nose is Demerara at its best: leather, tea, plums and tobacco with a faint touch of smoke (like a pipe just filled with new tobacco), but also caramel and marzipan. The palate is somehow light, not in terms of taste but of lack of the impact the high proof gives. The taste is pretty much consistent with the nose, just a bit of astringency but also more some caramelised sugar. A bit more of strenght would have raised my already high evaluation

Heavy, very heavy it comes... dried plum, generally dark dried fruits. Leather, pencil, dark chocolate and some pine wood. Great oily mouthfeel... falls a bit short compared to the nose... flavor profile similar dark fruits plum raisin heavy dark molasses vanilla and slightly dirty notes. Great long finish.

Very elegant and very old balanced Port Mourant! The typical pencil note is there but fortunately rather in the background. Pleasant delicious notes of almond pastry, milk chocolate, and black tea... For 44 years old, surprisingly little wood is felt here. Very cool experience!

Trade fair rating Village 25: Great how intense and concentrated this rum comes with only 46%. The profile strongly reminds of the 94er REVs, if it weren't for the Port Mourant here. Delicate!

Amazing nose, roasty, spicey, dry fruits as well (prunes), marzipan. It is not so strong on nose as some other representatives of PM. Palate is rich of wood, roasted almonds, bitter and dry, anise, dried fruits, very complex for rather low ABV. I particularly liked bitterness which almost dried my tongue. After while one can discover chocolate, tea, vanilla and much more. Long woody and bitter finish in your mouth. Impressive PM.

For the reduction this feels rather full,.an agricole fullnes of marzipan and tea. I really like this as it never gives you an impression of lacking taste. A really nice 1974 from an unknown bottler. Lovely
