I’ve had some bottles of this rum from the Carrere distillery, located in Basse Terre (Guadeloupe), for quite a while. Now it was time to taste. The name Zenga refers to the Zenga rooster, evoking the tradition of fighting roosters. The nose is round, fruity, floral, spicy, sweet and woody with scents of orange, sugarcane, vanilla and caramel. At the palate it’s round, complex, balanced, floral, sweet, fruity, woody and spicy with flavors of sugarcane, honey, caramel, pears and vanilla. The finish is rather long with the flavors persisting together with some dryness.

This rum has an inviting nose, agricole, hay, chamomile, fruity, cask and pastry. On the palate, hay, chamomile, a bit of pencil shavings dominate, fruit comes out a bit later, accompanied by some sweetness. The finish is long and lingers for a long time, impressing with grassy notes, chamomile, a bit of pencil shavings, a slight sharpness and some orange peel. The years in the cask have done this agricole rum good. The finish really lasted a very long time. Very suitable as a grog and highly recommended as a cola rum 😋....
