Yeah, that's how it is. A completely normal rum from Martinique. Tastes like the others too. A bit of lemon and wood and that's it. That pretty much describes my impression. Good night Düsseldorf.

Very inconspicuous nose, a bit of ester and alcohol. Mostly sharp on the palate, very thin on other aromas. Alcohol poorly integrated. A bit of ester, a bit of pineapple. To scare the mother-in-law out of the house at Christmas...

Well, it doesn't really go neat. Nice experiment what the young Penninger tried here. Maybe it would have worked better with a bit more ABV. As a mixer, it only works to a limited extent. I think he should stick to his schnapps here, which are really tasty.

Discovered it on vacation and didn't expect much; the surprise was all the bigger. Really successful blend that takes you from initial sweetness through spice to fine ester notes.

Since I didn't expect such a bad product from Penninger, I tested again, this time not a sample but a bit from a bottle: Better, still not my taste, still too sweet, but at least drinkable and surely something for Baroko fans. Below my old assessment: 3.4 Sorry, but for me it was alcoholic sugar syrup. Minimal spices/herbs could be guessed.

From Stefan Penninger V. (yeah, the Penningers make the Stefans in batches) I expect no failures in distilling - and here also not in blending. The nose is fruity, powerful and estery. At least for the fairly German-set 42%. This continues in the mouth. The focus in the blend is clearly on heavy notes - yet they manage not to scare off the German palate. Great for what it is!

Fruit with rather unusual fruit notes, apple, slightly woody but also a bit alcoholic in smell. On the palate, primarily fruit again, apple, pear, fruit brandy in that direction. Light wood and in the fairly long finish it becomes rather spicy, a bit peppery. So a very unusual profile, something special, rum in Bavarian style. It's quite a wild blend from several countries. Complex, an expert would probably say. - Neat: 4/5 - Rum Fashioned: 4.5/5
