Bought three different Rivière du Mat, produced in Reunion, during my drive down to Spain. This is the second I open, a traditionnel Rhum Vieux. Haven’t found out the aging, but I characterize it as a VO with an aging about 3 years. Overall an OK rum that’s definitely better than the Ambre because of its deeper character (easier to recognize the aroma and tastes) and longer finish.

Kann es immer noch nicht fassen, dass wir umsonst vor der Alten Post standen :-( Dann geht es weiter mit einem Riviere du Mat. Vanille, Holz und Fruchtigkeit haben wir in der Nase und am Gaumen. Am Gaumen dann noch etwas Agricole.

Enticing floral-sweet on the nose, suggesting an older age. On the palate then disappointing, unbalanced and alcoholic-woody. If you don't want to be disillusioned, just smell the rum without drinking it. At least a relatively long-lasting finish.

Starts out pretty well. Agricole styled, fresh and dry. Oranges. Nougat/Marzipan and almonds. Taste: a tad disappointing. Less layered. Gets better with a few sips. A bit chemical. Some paint. Violet flowers. Finish: medium. A bit bitter. Plums. Overall not bad. Far from the brilliant 15y but nice nonetheless.

Time to finish up 1423's "24 days of Christmas". On day 20 we come across an agricole. It has some spicyness and wood in the nose to me, and in the notes I found some dried fruits, sugarcane and a grassy sensation with a medium finish

The very definition of cheap and cheerful. Blended rhum traditionnel with unspecified age profile and a bargain basement price. Surprisingly successful as a sipper, certainly not unpleasant by any means. Spicy, wooded, and containing that distinctive clay tone that I also find in rhum traditionnels by Isautier (the La Reunion neighbor of Rivière du Mat). For the 20€ asking price this is a recommend, assuming you are the type of person who is able to tier what you are drinking based on how much you are paying.

Light, very pleasant nose, which develops from slightly fruity to vanilla within 10 minutes. On the palate, however, very generic with a hint of honey. Finish intense and medium length. Nothing irritating here, but also nothing impressive. Too little for sipping for me, certainly a functional, unobtrusive choice as a mixer.

Slightly fruity scent, spices, cinnamon. Quite gentle, almost indistinct. Taste is a quite interesting mix of agricole and fruit brandy. Surprisingly distinct, spices, barrel, quite citrus and plum. Expectations were low, but this is not bad at all.

Sample no.20 of the 24 days of rum calendar 2023. Nose and palate as a generic agricole rum. Notes of grass and fruits. Some barrel and maybe leather and tobacco on the palate.

C’est un bon rhum vieux , il se boit sans artifice , ni glaçon ni sucre . Par contre je le trouve doux pour un rhum très vieux . Le final est court voir moyen . Par moi , à ce prix , ça reste un bon rhum à avoir dans sa collection.
