I first tasted the rum in the Masterclass at the GRF and now again in the RumX tasting. The impression from both tastings is very consistent. It is a light, simple rum, but as such one of the best in the category for me. It has much more aroma than the white Spanish mixers, but is not as brute as the Jamaicans. For me, this rum can almost pass as an aperitif as it is. With a little acidity or vermouth, you can certainly mix excellent drinks. Aromatically, the rum goes all-in for the banana, plus some ripe yellow fruit such as honeydew melon. There is also a vanilla note from the oak, as well as a beautiful minerality that becomes even more pronounced in the mouth. I like it very much and wonder why I haven't had a bottle in my cupboard for a long time.

Savanna Masterclass for RumX 2024. A nose dominated by banana and vanilla. A little vegetal (mint?), and sweet. The first palate is acqueous, with a hint of dilution. The banana is very present. The finish is short, with freshness, a slight menthol and a slight woodiness that was barely perceptible before. An unpretentious but pleasant rum to drink.

Aftertaste of the missed Savanna Masterclass ... unpleasantly alcoholic on the nose despite the measly 40%. Sweet and fruity with vanilla, yellow stone fruit, banana, grape and lemon. For me, more suitable for mixing than for pure enjoyment and not really my cup of tea. Not finished.

#4730 20.05.2024 Relaxing at home with a few samples. Nose Light, fruity, fresh, light floral, faint chocolate. Palate Light, fruity, pineapple, light floral, faint chocolate, faint wood, spices. Finish Short to medium, light, fresh, fruity, light citrus, faint wood, faint chocolate. The empty glass has stronger chocolate notes as well as vanilla and dried fruits.

RumX Savanna Masterclass 12.7. Started with the Metis for the first time in the glass, it strongly reminds me of the White Charrette I once bought in a French supermarket. The influence was very clear there. On the nose here some citrus fruit and the longer the glass stands the more anise comes out. On the palate then more fruit, some banana, orange and a pleasantly light spice. Nicely round. Definitely a candidate for the cocktail bar where it probably is intended.

Well, today I tasted the leftovers from the online tasting again after my battery left me in the middle of it. In short, this rum will definitely not make it into a higher rating. Even if the rum is not expensive, I think there is better for this price.

Savanna Masterclass for RumX July 2024: Comparatively light rum for a Savanna, which despite the reduced drinking strength does not lack expression. Fruits, some fermented aromas, on the palate flanked by some iodine/minerality. Tasty, exciting base for expressive cocktails.

Not so bad at all. Reminds me a bit of the white grogues from Cape Verde. Quite alcoholic on the nose, but also citrus fruits and sugarcane are recognizable. On the palate mostly citrus fruits and banana. Top with Coke.

A rather well-crafted permanent range rum. There is a dominance of banana and sweet spice (vanilla) aromas, then a more honeyed side on the cane, notes of citrus and grape. There is also a slight vegetal touch. The profile is soft and subtle, but that's the intended goal of this batch. The attack on the palate stays on the fruit, especially banana, then apple, citrus, and grape. Slightly woody and vanilla notes enhance the roundness. The profile is soft, a bit thin but has enough body to be felt. The alcohol is relatively light. The finish is short, still on the same register of sweetness with banana and vanilla, but also a slightly toasted woodiness and a bit of freshness to finish. The profile is far from ultra complex and the aromas are a bit shy, but it's an intermediate rum with good balance to be able to dose cocktails in mixology.

Solid mixing rum from Savanna. Lots of honey-banana, yellow grape and a lot of yeast. Spicy, slightly sweet and sour, with pastry notes but overall unfortunately a bit thin and too mild for my taste. Reminds subtly of white wine, but could have a bit more depth.

There is not much to discover in this Savanna fortified rum. Some citrus and caramel, as well as very light vanilla. More suitable for mixing. The price is correspondingly low, but there are better alternatives.

Nice, fruity sipper. Full of bananas and bright fruits on the nose, followed by vanilla & doughy notes on the palate. Rather gentle, probably a good mixer. A bit boring for solo drinking, but definitely not bad.

RumX Masterclass Savanna A relatively light Savanna, definitely positive the banana flavor and towards apricots, I liked that. The finish is short and light with a pleasant sweetness. Ok for little money, but rather not suitable for enjoyment.

Savanna RumX Masterclass with Samuel Pitarch, 2024-07-12: Tried for the first time in 2023 at the GRF in Berlin and the impression from back then is confirmed again. The Metis may not be the best choice for drinking neat, but the profile could harmonize well in cocktails. For that, I would still like a few more percent.

Won in the RumX lottery (Thanks Oliver ;)) Nose: weirdly timid but musty/vegetal the same time. Yoghurt. A bit like whisky spirit. A lot blander than I expected from a Savanna. Tasty: same. Very simple. Unlayered. Boring. There's not much there. Unexpected. They make such great stuff.

Tasted in the masterclass. On the nose, light fruity peach notes with a hint of vanilla. Very accessible taste. Light apple note with peach. Unfortunately, the finish is a bit weak. But pleasant to drink. Second tasting: still not really a standout.

Tried in the RumX masterclass: Surprising rum, almost clear for its age (5 years?). Probably aged in very large casks (barrels and vats). Otherwise very light, a good entry into the Savanna world!

Since I missed the Savanna Masterclass yesterday, I'm catching up today. I have no expectations - but can't complain either. Both on the nose and on the palate actually quite pleasant. Somehow I always end up with apple though. Overall also too thin.

Savanna Masterclass July 12, 2024: Fruity nose that lies between unaged and aged. Because of that, for me it's neither here nor there. In the mouth, it reminds me a bit of Havana 3: what's there is quite nice but a bit thin. Citrus, apple, slightly sour.
