27.02.2021 A nice blind tasting in a friend's home. Bottles covered in tin foil and only numbers to match up the glass with the bottle. Notes Light to medium dark in colour. Nose Fresh, light wood, light roasted, or and, coconut, faint smoke, raisin. Palate Balanced, fresh, light wood, orange, coconut, light spicy, faint mint, light vegetal. Finish Medium long, light wood, dried fruit, light orange, faint licorice.

The second unshared cask from Savanna for Belgium. Strawberry yoghurt and burnt sugar on the nose and palate. The alcohol is not well integrated. The finish is flat and simply sweet. This is probably Savanna's worst unshared cask to date.

Poorly rated, but understandable, there are really better Savannas ;) So it was really okay, but there are really better ones. Still, it's really good, a really tasty rum thanks to all the esters and tropical fruits.

This Single Cask for Belgium has a rather atypical, full-bodied profile for its young age. The nose is heavily influenced by fruit (raisins, yellow fruit and green apple), but spicy and floral notes balance the profile. It gains in opulence and fruitiness as it airs, but with a skilful balance between sweetness and complexity. A promising Savanna on paper. On the palate, however, there's a sensation of lightness, altered by a diluted edge that spoils the opening. This is a pity, as the fruity markers (yellow fruit, green apple, grape) remain perceptible but are much less aromatic on the palate. Bitterness and greenness take up more space, as do oak and spice. The alcohol could have been better integrated. The finish is very short, with only a faint hint of fruit, soon overtaken by the woody, vegetal influence that adds bitterness. A very changeable profile, a little disconcerting, which could have been aged a little longer to gain in finesse and depth.

Tasted at Liquid Leuven ‘25 The nose opens fantastically playful with juicy yellow fruits mixed with yoghurt and mid-summer breakfast notes. It develops into dried flowers and those typical Provence candied peaches and apricots, instantly bringing me back to my childhood. It’s young, but fresh and exciting. The palate leans more into red fruits and the sweets get cemented into a more sugary form. It’s spicy with elements of short-steeped oolong tea. For my taste a hair too thin. The finish is pepper-dusted, slightly hot, and very dry. Too short and fueled by brown sugar for my liking. In my opinion not on the level you would expect from an unshared cask, but judged too harshly.

On the nose, it is really very, very intense apple. On the palate, sweetness is added and the apples remain strongly dominant. The alcohol is nicely integrated. It only slightly reminds you of it at the end, which is rather short. Interesting, but somewhat unnecessarily thin.

On the nose it's pastry-like and slightly woody. But you can already feel that you're going to bite fully into the apple! It's young, fresh and light. On the palate, it's very round. Very smooth, the alcohol is perfectly integrated. You eat a good granny's apple pie! On the finish, the HERR stands out with its strawberry candy and olive. The 5 daily fruits and vegetables are gulped down in a few sips. OK, if you look at the label and see that it's a blend containing HERR aged 5 years, it's frustrating because not explosive enough. But it's great.

Nose: green apple, cut grass (a day old), dried flowers, cider... not too appealing. Mouth: calvados-y, light fruits, grassy. Finish: on similar notes. not too long. Well, this one falls a bit short compared to the Grand Arômes from yesterday. I wonder why Savanna doesn't do more GA... this here feels boring in comparison.

I've had the bottle open for a few months now. I find it less fruity than at the beginning. Not as intense and volatile as the HERR, but its presence is noticeable here. The aging in cognac casks offers a pleasant dimension that is well balanced. I like it, but I can imagine that it might not be for everyone.

A woody and smoky nose and a bit more vegetal after airing. On the palate, it's rather floral and fruity, quite soft and pleasant. A light rum with a slight acidity that reminds me of apple. It's good and enjoyable but a bit too light for my taste.

On the nose, a fresh impression, apple, yellow fruits, smoke, and spices. It smells agricole. The palate is quite light and supple, probably too much, continuing the nose with a woody side. The finish is medium to short. Nice, but nothing more.

A good Savanna but which I personally found a bit thin. It goes quite fast in the mouth. The HERR could perhaps have been felt better. But at the same time it must also be seen in its price range. From that point of view, it’s an excellent value for money.

Rums from the Savanna distillery are among my favorites. I recommend everyone try especially the ester-heavy pieces like Grand Arome or HERR. You haven't felt so much fruit in just a few drops of liquid for a long time.

Aroma is amazing Palate little bit disappointed, was expected more. Aroma are very close to HV white HERR. Happy to get this same character, but in this release it’s more round and less intense - cask gives something new, but also takes something from raw distillate

Not a powerhouse, rather the fine blade from the Savanna distillery. Lots of fruity aromas from tropical, citrus and yellow fruits, subtle spice, elegant wood. Very harmonious and accessible - Savanna in a relaxed form.

25/01/2025: tasted @ Liquid Leuven in "De Hoorn". Another nice surprise that day. I don't have much experience yet with rums from Savanna/La Réunion, but I liked this one. Matured in ex-Cognac casks.
