Apple and nail-polish on the nose, with a light, fruity, slightly sweet palate and a bit of dark chocolate underneath. It's a young 3-5 year blend of Jamaica, Trinidad, Barbados and Guyana rums, and the Guyana part shows. Several tasters found it thin and a touch sharp; one straight-up said it "reminds you of calvados," another likened it to grappa.

A fruity and sweet smell. The taste is also fruity, slightly sweet, a bit of caramel. The aftertaste is mild and quite long. A good rum for the price.

This rum is a blend of 4 rums (thus it's name 4 Ports) from Jamaica, Trinidad, Barbados and Guayana aged from 3-5 years and it is Guayana which is most prominent in the smell as well as taste, you cannot confuse it with anything else. I love the nosing of this rum. You can smell the pineapple in the background which struck me the most. The rum is too young which you can tell by its harshness in taste but overall it is really interesting piece. Considering Navy rums though, I would prefer Black Tot with its more prominent, balanced and rounded taste instead of this one.

Read full review ›Lately, I keep coming across blends from several distilleries (most often from Barbados and Jamaica) and I really enjoy them. They are usually at a very reasonable price and without artificial additives. I see this as a really big progress that has happened in the rum offerings here over the past few years.
