A.H. Riise XO Reserve Rum Superior Cask

Best poured over ice or into a longdrink, this is a soft, very sweet pour built on vanilla, caramel and candied orange, with cinnamon and Christmas spice running through it. One taster nailed it: "smell of marzipan," taste all about candied orange peel. Fans of sweet, spiced sippers enjoy it; anyone chasing a dry, classic rum will find it drinks closer to a liqueur.

How does A.H. Riise XO Reserve Rum Superior Cask taste?

Aggregated from 183 community reviews.

Very sweet, spiced, liqueur-leaning dessert pour Loved by sweet-tooth drinkers for its vanilla-orange-marzipan profile, but many find it cloying, artificial and barely rum-like — the label itself reads "spirit drink." Very divisive.

Sehr fein und gelungen mut passender Schärfe. Buttersotch mut etwas Frucht und Vanille Noten die fein am Gaumen spielen. Mit langem süßen Abgang und leckerem Buterscotch die an Werthers echte erinnert.

6,2:The first nose reveals a hint of heavy rum (overripe banana), but this remains fairly stealthy, as vanilla and orange quickly assert themselves, enhanced by a large pinch of cinnamon. The cinnamon's powdery aspect really comes to the fore, all the more so as pepper and nutmeg come to the fore. The sugar is very present, giving us a kind of spicy candy. We return to the orange zest when we shake the rum. This gives a slightly drier impression that tries to bring a little balance before the cinnamon melted into the vanilla makes a comeback. The spicy ambience continues with ginger and cardamom, reminiscent of the little gingerbread men we eat during the holidays. 6:The vanilla-orange-cinnamon trio that leads the way on the palate is definitely reminiscent of Christmas. It's a tropical Christmas, and a particularly West Indian one at that, since these aromas are reminiscent of the famous schrubb prepared in the islands for this occasion. 5,5:The finish with thick sugar of an orange liqueur takes over, depositing this citrus flavor on the palate for a long time to come..

07.12.2025 Day 7 of my Christmas Calendar. Still find it very sweet. Christmas spices can be found in the profile among the fruits. ---------- Fruitiness and sweetness is way too dominant and too much for me to enjoy. I wouldn't classify this as a rum.

I enjoy the sweetness combined with spices. For me this is one of the most favorite rums.

Typical Riise, lots of sugar, spices and typical aroma in the nose that is present throughout the whole portfolio. Spices include, clove, cinnamon, vanilla. Nougat & caramel with hint of orange peel at the back are also present in the nose as well as taste. A little bit of cardamom in the nose maybe?

Sladší, svěžejší, lehce ovocný, hezky navoněný. Moc dobrý :)

Brand

Old St. Croix

Avg Rating 7.5/10 51 Rums

Old St. Croix is the current name of the Danish rum house that traded as A.H. Riise until June 2025. Both names point back to the same man: Albert Heinrich Riise, a pharmacist who settled in the Danish West Indies in 1838 and exported his rum under the Old St. Croix label. The house style is soft and dessert-leaning, built on sweetened blends rather than dry spirit, and it splits opinion in the community more than almost any other brand on RumX.
