Sipped neat from a tasting glass, this is where 20 tropical years on a Savanna molasses cask shows up: grapefruit, raisins and tropical fruit on the nose with a faint glue note, then a dry, tannic palate of black tea, dark chocolate and roasted bitterness. Very wonderful nose! Some harmonious notes of fruits (a lot of grapefruit), roasted aromas, almond and oak. In mouth and the finish can‘t continue from the warm welcome! I like the bitte, grapefruit notes. A big minus is the actually price tag of 400€ too. The alcohol could be integrated better. Nose: glue, fruity, mandarin, raisin, oak, vanilla, spicy, roasted, almond, toffee and some herbal notes Mouth: dry, bitter, round, tannins, licorice, roasted nuts, dark chocolate, oak, vanilla, spicy, grapefruit, nougat, earthy(not the agricole typical one), black tea Finish: Medium long, bitter, tannins, dry, grapefruit, barrel(oak), vanilla roasted

Rums from the Savanna distillery are some of my favorites. I recommend everyone try especially the ester-rich pieces like Grand Arome or HERR. You haven't felt so much fruit in just a few drops of liquid for a long time.

An intriguing Savanna with a versatile profile and an established reputation. The nose is superb, deep and elegant, very fruity (green apple, yellow fruit, grapes, dried fruit), with lovely spicy notes (cinnamon, pepper) and a touch of pastry and glue. The woodiness blends with tobacco and roasted notes. A very elaborate olfactory profile. The attack on the palate is more lively and incisive. Spices take precedence with woody notes, black tea, but above all a sensation of bitterness that emerges with cocoa, dark chocolate and licorice. Roasted notes amplify this sensation of dryness on the palate. The alcohol is well integrated, but the profile is perhaps more concentrated and less balanced. The finish continues this tannic, dry, smoky length. The bitterness is well present, with dark chocolate, oak notes and spices (pepper, chili, licorice). A lovely Savanna that explores different horizons between nose and palate, but perhaps lacks a touch of overall coherence to reach the heights.

Very nice Savanna bottling from Velier. Thanks for the dram to Dominic at the sample swap. In my opinion, however, the nose is very restrained at first. I think it just needs more time in the glass. I still have a sample to try. The only thing is again the price, which is too high for me.

Really beautiful and unusual Savanna traditional... Nice composition of mint, black tea, dark berries, grapefruit, fennel seeds and licorice as well as some dark chocolate. I like it surprisingly well! Only a little herbal on the back, and musty after rotten wood...

06.11.2021 Another visit to "Den Danske Rom & Whiskyfestival and once again with special access and many very drunk people both days. Notes. A bit overpriced in my mind. Fresh and fruity rum with a light touch of glue. The palate is also fresh with nice fruit and a spicy medicibal touch. The finish is medium to long and lighly dry.

Long tropically matured Savanna traditionel - in my opinion without Grand Arôme. And I think that suits me. For me at least. Tea, cask, mint and fruit (grapefruit, mandarin, a few berries) ... I think it's delicious.

Rich fruity nose with grapefruit, raisins and tropical fruit, complemented by vanilla and a subtle note of glue. The palate reveals dark chocolate, black tea and roasted, bitter aromas. In combination with the powerful dryness, this creates a multi-layered and challenging profile that impressively reflects the character of Savanna.

8,3:On the nose, the first impression we get is herbal and vegetal with black tea, as fruity notes come to party-sour cherry, blackberry, grape fruit, all a bit waxy and woody, becoming dry with some dried fruits... We might think of a soy sauce. There is strong roasted and medicinal side to be noticed with glue, menthol and as the wood is burnt. Aeration brings out even darker side with molasses, licorice, resin and for a second, a camphor. It becomes a bit spicy, we notice cocoa, perhaps dark chocolate, some sweetness with melting toffee. After well rested, tannins are here. 8,2:On the palate, the attack is spicy and dark with black tea, licorice, dark chocolate, waxy, a bit bitter with resin and medicinal notes...Pleasantly smoky, roasted and burnt wood, a touch of umami, mixed with herbal notes and eucalyptus, dry, we get dried fruits and citrus as darker side dissipates a bit... Well, complex and balanced. 8,2:The finish is long, woody and dry, as tannins are here, dark with licorice, molasses, cocoa and roasted-smoky, musty and some tobacco....

Mandarin meets dark chocolate in an oak forest. Plus some licorice and vanilla. Basically a dreamy taste, the deduction is for the clearly noticeable alcohol especially on the palate.

👃 Lots of fresh rather tropical fruits, papaya, guava and green banana. These fade to a dominant aroma of alcohol-soaked raisins. Slight freshness on grapefruit and yellow melon. Then more and more grapefruit. Little pink pig with marzipan. Madagascar spice market, saffron, ground chili, pink peppercorns, cinnamon. Delicacy on vanilla cream covered with caramel. Small downside is the glue stick smell present on the nose as well as the alcohol being a bit too present. 😋 Milk chocolate, vanilla, caramel, lots of caramel, brown sugar, cinnamon, slight licorice, a bit of mint. Again these dried fruits (raisins) and citrus mainly on mandarin and grapefruit. ⛳ End of mouth and finish on a dry bitterness brought by dark chocolate, Espelette chili, salted grapefruit 😳, various tea leaves and dry barrel wood. 20 years of tropical aging might be too much for a molasses from Savanna. The wood is very dry, bitter from the start of the mouth to the finish. Slight note of brine in the empty glass. Still a beautiful rum, nice nose, quite complex and entertaining.

Nice molasses Savanna, very on the ripe side. Alcohol integration is not optimal and there are a bit too many bitter notes in the aftertaste, but otherwise this is really a very nice, full-bodied profile.

29/07/2026: sample tasting @ home. Very tasty Savanna bottled by Velier. The nose is beautiful and invites you to start tasting. The palate is complex, fruity and makes you want to take another sip. Unfortunately, the price tag is too high and not worth it in my opinion.

Chestnut. Smell: At first round and aromatic - typically Savanna I would say. Sweet and fruity with raisins, dried fruits and tropical fruits (mango). Also vanilla and honey. Smells very delicious. Taste: Initially sweet with dried fruits in the mouth. When swallowing very strong, woody and very spicy. Pepper, honey and dried fruits. Toffee, leather and furniture polish. Complex and tasty. Finish: Long and warming. Spicy and slightly dry with aromas of pepper, wood and dried fruits. Great rum - I already know why Savanna is my favorite distillery.

My RumRatings review from 5 years ago: The rum is expressive and thick on the nose. It shows a lot of fruit with nice sweet notes of toffee, vanilla and burnt brown sugar. But also honey and oak. All wonderfully balanced. On the palate the rum is incredibly creamy with a full body. Sweet fine chocolate and vanilla notes pair with fruity tropical citrus fruit. In addition comes a pleasant cask influence. Towards the finish some spice comes in and the cask influence grows. An excellent rum and definitely a mecca for sweet rum drinkers as it has a creamy sweet texture. The rum is very tasty and the ultimate easy sipper.
