The sample is the Extra 12ys, probably the successor to the Extra (presumably 18ys). Beautiful color!!! 🍭🖍️ Intense varnish and polish notes. Caramel, very light spice, vanilla, little wood, dried fruit, lots of orange after 15 minutes. Well melted, depth, the 43% is just enough. A little spicier in the mouth, followed by a wonderful, sparkling finish. 😎😎 The profile is very much to my taste, a great sipper that lacks a few % for higher honors. But that's how it was done back then. 🇯🇲

One more today and this one is really convincing. I find orange and orange peel in the nose and it comes across as nutty. Liquorice is added on the palate and it's very balanced. The alcohol is well integrated.

Pretty decent standard rum. Not a big number, but honest and decent. Personally, a little too little ABV for me. For the price, a lot fits together here. I'll look for something else next year for the holidays.

Despite being only 43%, this old standard bottling has a very appealing aroma density, which is carried by a natural basic sweetness consisting of caramel and molasses as well as raisins and dates. There are also a few fruits, plenty of liquorice and an appropriate amount of oak with notes of chocolate and vanilla. When swallowed, the alcohol is somewhat noticeable and there is a metallic finish, but overall this is a surprisingly good sipper.

Today we did a widespread tasting with very different rums. Should be rested for at least 15 minutes before nosing and sipping. This one is from the 80'es and pretty good for a cheap rum (back then).
