Finished in an Islay cask. It morphs more into a tobacco flavoured rum than a peaty/medicinal rum. Which makes it more interesting. Some well roasted coffeebeans. Not too sweet. I like it a lot.

In my opinion, the light, candied and fruity profile of the rums from the Varela Hermanos distillery is well suited to harmoniously combine with the aromas of peated whisky casks. Personally, the Islay influence is a bit too pronounced here, as sometimes the distillate's own aromas are somewhat overlaid, but with this bottling every connoisseur who likes the combination of rum and peat smoke should be satisfied.

This is a rum in the low price range and I think it performs pretty well when looking at the price tag. The nose is extremely light once rested and there's a bit of workshop in there 😊 Lightly fruity with nice smoky wood and peat is very obvious in the profile. This is probably a rum that can masquerade as a whisky if you want to try it out on your whisky friends.

A pleasant soft nose of tobacco, slight sherry sweetness and young wood. On the palate initially a heavy oily sweetness that quickly turns into a smoky tobacco note and is mildly distributed! Gradually wood joins in and some burnt sugar! The smoky remains in the aftertaste! If you like whisky, you will also like this rum! I like it.

A short finish that strongly reminds of whisky and cigar. Otherwise mainly notes of dark chocolate which I have more or less had in every rum from Panama so far. Here rather less due to the dominance of earth and cigar at the end.

If you like Islay whiskies and are looking for a smooth alternative and entry into rum with smoky/peaty notes, you will definitely be happy with this. Personally, I'm not an Islay fan, but I'm still surprised how harmonious and especially drinkable this rum is!
