TRC Don José Panama PMD 2004
Sip this neat and it drinks more like a peated Islay whisky than a Panama rum: smoke, tobacco, earth and burnt sugar, with a little dried fruit underneath. The Islay cask finish takes over, turning the medicinal peat into roasted coffee and dark chocolate. Most tasters find it surprisingly easy-drinking and "not too sweet" — though one couldn't get past the cold-ash note.
- Whisky-like smoke
- Tobacco and chocolate
- Easy-drinking strength

How does TRC Don José Panama PMD 2004 taste?
Aggregated from 13 community reviews.
Smoky, peated rum that drinks like Islay whisky Smoky, tobacco-forward and whisky-like from its Islay cask finish. Whisky drinkers tend to enjoy it; the heavy peat and cold-smoke edge isn't for everyone, and one reviewer poured it away.

This is a rum in the low price range and I think it performs pretty well when looking at the price tag. The nose is extremely light once rested and there's a bit of workshop in there 😊 Lightly fruity with nice smoky wood and peat is very obvious in the profile. This is probably a rum that can masquerade as a whisky if you want to try it out on your whisky friends.

Finished in an Islay cask. It morphs more into a tobacco flavoured rum than a peaty/medicinal rum. Which makes it more interesting. Some well roasted coffeebeans. Not too sweet. I like it a lot.
