New Grove Savoir-Faire Beau Plan 2007
Most tasters land in agreement here: a pleasant, well-mannered New Grove that's easy to sip but doesn't reach for the stars. Expect fruit, spicy oak and a light minty-menthol freshness, with honey and vanilla on the nose. A few note it bites and dries a touch late, and one felt the finish went slightly off-balance. Ripe, tidy, unspectacular.

How does New Grove Savoir-Faire Beau Plan 2007 taste?
From community reviews · summarized with AI
Balanced, fruity-woody Mauritian easy sipper Widely seen as a typical, balanced New Grove — fruity with spicy wood and a menthol edge. Nice rather than thrilling; a couple of people wanted more structure toward the finish.

If you want to get to know the typical profile of New Grove in the form of an easy sipper, this molasses distillate is perfect. Update 2024-11-02: Impression of the first tasting more or less confirmed. Typical New Grove, mint comes through, rum bites and is a bit astringent. On the island itself, you probably only get this or a similar vintage through Grays' online shop or next to the distillery in the recommended museum "Aventure du Sucre." Update 2026-08-23: Tasted from the freshly opened split bottle and now I already regret having included this rum in the split, it's sooo delicious! 🤭😅 [Joke - of course the rum will be split!] For me simply the perfect easy sipper. Especially if you're too lazy to wade through hundreds of samples to find the right one for the evening appetite. Upgraded by 2 points compared to the last rating.

#4248 09.09.2023 I got 6 secret samples from a friend as a blind tasting and that has been a lot of fun spread over two evenings. This one was really nice and the price to quality is pretty good. Fruity with a spicy touch and a pretty well balanced profile. The finish is medium to long and warm/spicy. The empty glass has some tobacco, pineapple and very light eucalyptus.

A balanced rum with notes of fruits, spicy wood and a slight menthol freshness. It feels mature and high-quality. Not a spectacular aroma bomb, but a very harmonious rum that convinces through its balance and elegance.

These samples could maybe be my introduction to Mauritius rums. Thank you Gunnar for the samples. On the nose: Mild and easy to approach on the nose as the abv suggests. Woody notes, roasted notes, light vanilla, light honey, light herbal or maybe a mint note and light tobacco note. Taste: Woody, dried fruits, spicy notes, light minty notes, light menthol notes in the background. Light leather notes. Roasted notes. As the rum opens up you get more earthy notes like light pencil shavings and light tobacco notes. Finish: Woody, roasted, minty notes, spicy notes, barrel notes. Dry. I think price to quality is pretty good on this one and this was quite easy and pleasant sipper.

Today, a comparison of three New Grove Savoire Fair, aged 13, 15, and 16 years. Thanks to Bauerngaumen in Berlin for the split. For me, due to the ABV, they are rather easy sippers. If I had to rank the three, the 15-year-old would come out on top.

Interesting spicy wood. Pretty nice.

A nose that's almost too greedy, a sympathetic palate before a slightly disconcerting finish. Not bad, but lacks balance and structure.
Review by Eric Frechin
Tasted as a sample. If I had tasted it blind, I think I wouldn't have had any trouble identifying New Grove. What limits my score to 8 is the quite intense peppery note on the palate and a bit too much tannin. The 10-year-old is still cheaper and of almost equal quality.
