New Grove Savoir-Faire Ville Bague 2004
Surprise here is how much this drinks like an aged Armagnac rather than a tropical Mauritian rum. Wood leads, backed by cherry, dried fruit, tobacco and a dark-chocolate bitterness. Most tasters call it well balanced with a nice sweet-and-sour push, though several note the aromas and flavors fade fast. At 45% it stays composed and food-friendly.

How does New Grove Savoir-Faire Ville Bague 2004 taste?
From community reviews · summarized with AI
Wood-driven, Armagnac-like aged sipper Most find it "very nice and balanced rum," wood-driven with cherry, dried fruit and an Armagnac edge. The recurring gripe: the nose and palate fade quickly.

Despite the relatively low alcohol content, it surprises both on the nose and on the palate with balanced woody notes paired with Armagnac, fruity, herbal notes. Unfortunately, the notes fade very quickly.

Nose: the nose evokes the Vagabond Spirit Harmony with its passion fruit notes. You also sense some yellow wine, with white grapes. It is quite floral, and a slight young woodiness comes first, quite fresh. The woodiness becomes stronger in the glass, a wood that the tears have dried. Palate: you immediately get the sharpness of ginger on the tongue. The passion fruit is there but more discreet than in the olfactory part. The same goes for the white grape. You still taste a very light woodiness, which gives a fairly tannic aftertaste to this rum. It is also quite liqueur-like. The alcohol is generally poorly integrated. This rum lacks indulgence and sweetness. The whole is quite dry. At the end of the mouth, a white pepper dries the drink even more. Finish: average on spices, ginger, white pepper, grape, the woodiness becomes more pronounced and exotic (sandalwood).

Pleasant surprise. Beautifully woody in the positive sense. Unfortunately, a somewhat volatile fellow in terms of smell and taste. Very good PLV.

Today, compared three New Grove Savoire Fair, with 13, 15 and 16 years. Thanks to Bauerngaumen in Berlin for the split. For me, because of the ABV, more the easy sippers. If I had to rank the three, the 15-year would have the edge.

Last New Grove for tonight. Thanks Gunnar for the samples. On the nose: Woody, roasted, vanilla, dried fruits, very light minty note. Fruity notes do lean slightly more on the sour side. Taste: Fruity notes like dried fruits, grapes and cherries. Tannins. Woody notes. Thick, but not syrupy mouthfeel. Light spicy notes like peppery notes in the background. Finish: Minty and herbal notes at first. Then you get fruity notes like grapes. Finish is medium lennot and dry in the end. This one was more fruitier than the 12 yeat old New Grove, but was lacking the complexity that the 12 yearbold New Grove had, but this was my pick out the three New Groves i tasted today
Review by TheJackDrop
Still in a New Grove line I like. Woodier, darker, with a hint of Armagnac. But also less fruit than usual, and no/few menthol (too bad). Medium-length finish.
Review by Gyuli
Aroma: Salty and tart, like salt water, with an oaky, caramel base. Neither heavy nor light. Taste: Caramel sweet at first, then earthy, bitter pill flavors as you linger. Finish: The powdery pill flavor builds up and intensifies with each sip, as well as the bitterness of 99% dark chocolate. The peachy fruit flavors that were not present when swirling in the mouth are felt afterward.

Cherry blossoms, cherry and Armagnac on the nose. Super delicious sweetness on the palate. In the finish complemented by herbal notes.
Review by Rowald Sweet Empire
Pretty wood driven Mauritian rum. Armagnaccy. Good sweet and sour balance. Dried fruits. Thick. a bit of Tobacco. Not as "fresh" as younger New Grove. More complex in spiciness and "woody" flavours. Recommended if you're also into the more thicker flavoured Armagnacs/Cognacs and Brandies.
Review by Irbis
Very intersting rum. It is not dry, but not sweety as well. Has long dark chocolate taste. It is not simple and its 45 are definitely saver for this rum
Review by AlPhilipo
Quite Armagnac-heavy with plenty of tannins. It creates a super cool mouthfeel with decent complexity. At 45%, it feels a bit watery and unfortunately fades in the nose and on the palate after some time.

Very nice and balanced rum.
