Sipped neat, this old Bacardi 8 reads sweet and thin, with vanilla, caramel and a sugared-apricot note over young, worn-out bourbon oak. There's a metallic, slightly synthetic edge and more alcohol than the 8 years suggest. Several tasters found the sweetness "somewhat overpowering" and the body watery — a daiquiri turns it "booooring" but drinkable, with the vanilla coming through hard.

Tasting Artur's Puerto Rico rums. Few aromas on the nose, sweetness, wood, yellow fruit and vanilla. Fairly pronounced wood on the palate, with mirabelle plum, yellow fruit and neutral alcohol. The finish is short, with fruit, wood and sweetness. Here too, we're a long way from a premium rum.

06.12.2024 The liquid History of Puerto Rico Tasting First of all, many thanks to Artur for the extreme effort and for sharing such old rums at all. The rums themselves were not really spectacular except for a few exceptions, BUT I still really enjoyed it because such rums are no longer available to ordinary mortals, and all the background knowledge Artur shared I find insanely interesting. I really take my hat off to that. Big respect!

Puerto Rico Set Nr. 14: Nose is nicely balanced with wood, caramel and dried fruits. Significantly better than the 5y. Feeling in the palate is rather sweet and quite thin. Sweetness is somewhat overpowering. Not much complexity. Cheers to Artur for curating this set!

Arturs Puerto Rico Tasting, thanks for the great overview and history :-) Now three older Bacardis in comparison. Extremely sweet and artificial, somehow also dry and light tobacco. Just doesn't work at all

Unfortunately unusually sweet, almost syrupy. Rather artificial fruit aroma like sugared apricots, some tobacco and young wood. Never worth 70€+. More of a prestige rum and nothing too special.

Again an at the time incredibly expensive rum. some nut to the standard, worn out bourbon cask. Meh to the max. Finishes like it started. Daiquiri: Booooring, but ok, the vanilla is extremely poignant. 2/5 Stars
