very very tasty successor to the velier Antigua 2012. not quite as complex, but almost more drinkable, much darker & spicier, less fruity and an incredibly cool dark chocolate brownie/cookie note. Very cool stuff, especially for the money!🇦🇬🙏💥❤️👌🏽 If it was a little less biting it could almost get over 9.0 just because of the fair price!

Delicious rum, nice coconut-chocolate notes that remind me of Belize. Doesn't quite match my personal taste but the alcohol is excellently integrated, the mouthfeel pleasantly thick, and the rum definitely fairly priced.

A great rum from ADL. I think it’s great that they now release a high congener rum themselves so that we now don’t need to buy overpriced Velier releases. It’s not possible, at least for me, to distinguish the Velier English Harbour from this one. GREAT RUM !!!

The first few times I tried this rum, I couldn't do much with it. Nevertheless, I was amazed by the mild 64%! Characterized by caramel, chocolate, roasted nutty and fruit, you should give it a few minutes and add some water so that the solvent note can evaporate. In the mouth it is initially spicy and bitter chocolatey, but hardly any fruit. Sweet caramel, chocolate and roasted aromas come through in the finish. The fruit, I mean mainly banana and coconut, also reappears. Delicious and very good value for money. Hope to see another release from Antigua -> YES!!!

Reminiscent of a Foursquare-Belize blend on the nose and palate. A little wilder and edgier than the Antigua from Velier. I like it very much. Top value for money!

Just like a moment ago with FS for Warehouse#1, now with EH I'm sipping the last drops from the poured sample. Similarity in the nose with FS, but additionally some earthy dustiness. Taste-wise leaning more towards caramel and pepper, thus sharper. Strong but good drink.

Thanks to Serge for this Sample! Really a great rum! Good complexity, full body, the barrel and alcohol is integrated as well too. The finish is quite long and overwehlemed of dark chocolate I found it similar to some belize bottlings!

Despite having no added sugar it’s really really sweet and thick. It would have totally had me a couple of years back when I was into the sweet stuff and by then landed a really high score. After steering away from sweetness I now probably need to rethink the sweetness aspect of it as I still think it’s quite good. Question is should new me or old me give the verdict? Let’s mix em and round up the result…. A few times in on this bottle now and still the same conflicting feelings about it. And even more times in, still the same... And again and again…

A quite sharp smell comes at you. Tastes much softer then with well-integrated alcohol. An incredibly chocolatey experience. Then some coconut comes in. Not super complex, but a great rum for cold days with great value for money.

On the occasion of the second release of the high congener series, a tasting here in the glass. It was a real blind buy back then. For the release price between 60-70€, you simply get a lot of flavor here. We are somewhere between Barbados Foursquare and Belize. Beautiful intense aromas. A bit too alcoholic but a very good release.

Next sample from a buddy. Now it gets interesting. Here you have vanilla, caramel and dark chocolate on the nose and palate. The 63.8% ABV comes through but isn't harshly felt. My recommendation.

Very good rum. It resembles a Foursquare 2007 quite a bit but with less solvents. Slightly less complex on the palate as well. But very indulgent and very pleasant.

So after having tasted the 5-year-old several times, now this one had to be tried. The 63% give the rum a decent strength and a long warm finish. At the end of the day, I wished for a bit more complexity and recognizability. Price-performance I think is okay.

Could be Foursquare Update 2025: 2 years later, in a blind tasting, I would still I would still guess Foursquare. But it's Antigua and still Still delicious. Nice and dry, with wood, coconut, nuts and vanilla. Top rum

I almost wrote off this rum. On Dominic's advice, I added some water, which helped a lot. Thanks! Still, despite high congeners and cask strength, it's a very light rum. The main themes on the nose: milk chocolate, caramel, and vanilla run through. There's also some fruit (apricot) and a slight bitter coffee note. That's very pleasant but also a bit boring. However, the alcohol integration is fantastic. The highlight for me is the gentle and creamy finish, where you still have the feeling of melting chocolate in your mouth for minutes.

The nose is initially dominated by menthol. A splash of water releases vanilla sugar. In the taste it shifts to yellow raisin, but some glue as well. When adding water, the glue disappears and is replaced by more fruitiness (peach, a little banana). In the finish also plum.

At the price tag this is a very nice rum. The nose is fruity and full of spices topped with some barrel and caramel in the back. The palate is heavy yet sweet with fruit and spice. In the back i get chocolate and oak. The finish is medium to long with vanilla, cocoa and nice toasted oak.

Small upward point correction. I've come to appreciate the rum more now. It was my first Antigua rum and I would have guessed Barbados blind. With a few drops of water it becomes somewhat more interesting. Nice creamy and alcohol quite well integrated.

Nose: spicy. Pinewood. Weird funk. Woodspices are very prominent here. Covered with a layer of glue. No big things happening here...yet. Taste: pleasant molasses sweetness. Quite hot. Glue. Toffee. Caramel. Reminds me a bit of Foursquare/Travellers here and there. More (pine)wood(spices). Some fudge. Light coconut. Syropy. Not high ester as most rums but it sort of shines through. Interesting juice. Promising distillery. Gotta love em hot tough.

Despite high expectations, this rum does not grab me. It mostly consist of classic rum notes like caramel, vanilla and wood. Even with time, it feels a bit alcoholic. It is definitely not a bad rum, there is just too little going on to become excited about.

Very floral-fruity on the nose, but first you have to overcome the biting alcohol. Then I get apricot with papaya and a hint of coconut. It gets a bit metallic, turning into caramel. Fine spice with vanilla. On the palate intense. Immediately some bitter-salty-slightly sweet notes. A metallic freshness that could also come from lime peel. At the same time spicy-peppery and bitter-caramelized, lightly toasted. Possibly a bit very dark chocolate. On the finish bitter metallic. One of the better Antiguas. I need some more time to really warm up to it.

Searched for a long time and finally found another bottle. It was worth it because the memory was right: What an awesome piece, full-on fruit and spices. On the palate then perfectly integrated alcohol, fruity chocolaty with a long woody finish. I'm glad I grabbed another half bottle.

Exciting rum that rightly got more attention than other bottlings in the series. Both on the nose and on the palate it offers nice chocolatey aromas reminiscent of cocoa, dark chocolate or dark cookies. The congeners deliver a full-bodied taste that reminds me of other alcoholic drinks made from grapes or for example a Madeira rum. Really great quality at a fair price!

An overall very chocolatey profile with lots of vanilla, marzipan and coconut. From the nose you'd expect something overly sweet but the caramel notes are surprisingly well integrated in the taste. Less well integrated is the alcohol, which costs the rum a better rating.

This is really very nice. Nice chocolate aroma, with a hint of esters and a bunch of spices. On the palate, cocoa, coconut and again spices dominate. The almost perfectly integrated alcohol catches attention and considering the price/performance ratio, it's a great deal.

Parallel tasting of the two distillery bottlings. I like the 2020 better on the nose, it seems fresher and fruitier, with fine milk chocolate with baking spices and baked apple aroma. The palate is a bit grumpier, rougher, the alcohol not yet fully integrated. Many dark aromas from the cask. The finish is quite long and dry with lots of tannins and roasted aromas. In comparison, both are equal, the 2020 leads on the nose, while the 2023 wins on the palate.

The nose quite spicy. Roasted plums I would say. On the palate a pretty creamy vanilla. Definitely has a nice aroma. The finish could linger a bit longer. All in all tasty.

On the nose it immediately reminded me of Chairman's with a very present molasses. On the palate much more complexity with vegetal notes that find their place well (rosemary, eucalyptus, mint?) Of course, the classic banana notes with some solvents. Very nice.

#notapro When drinking this rum, you clearly feel the alcohol percentage without it standing out unpleasantly. Its aroma includes sweet notes of vanilla and caramel, but also a slightly estery sting. The mouthfeel is pleasantly warm. Hardwarm is especially pleasant to drink.

Meine RumRatings Review von vor 5 Jahren: Der Rum ist in der Nase erstaunlich süß mit Vanille und Karamel. Es kommen auch Aromen von getrockneten Früchten, dunkler Schokolade und etwas Holz. Alles schön ausbalanciert und fast süffig. Am Gaumen kommt der Rum mit viel Power. Er hat eine angenehme Komplexität aus Karamell, getrockneter Frucht, Vanille und Holz. Das Bourbon Fass kommt schön durch. Der Rum ist durchaus scharf und etwas Wasser beruhigt ihn sehr. Dann wird er etwas runder und zugänglicher. Der Abgang ist wieder fruchtig und holzig. Ich war sehr positiv überrascht und für 50-60 Euro bekommt man hier viel Rum. Etwas Wasser und Zeit zum atmen helfen dem Rum, welcher durchaus komplex ist. Ich finde hier stimmt die Preis Leistung voll.
