Sample from HanseSpirit'25. I also like to give German distilleries a chance. Had the 5-year-old in the glass some time ago and found it not bad. But it wasn't available, so here the simpler blend. Not from molasses, but from concentrated sugarcane juice. Nose: spicy, wintry, with clove, ginger, baking spices and almost a bit of juniper. Behind that a distinct, artificial sweetness of candied fruits. Flattens out a bit and is slightly musty. Not as round as hoped. 6.4 Palate: sweet-spicy. Diluted heather honey with violets. Slightly salty with some caraway and chocolate. Back again honey with dried plum. Overall thin and short. I think if it were bottled at 50+%, it would have a completely different potential, because the heather honey note is not uninteresting. But as it is, just average. 6.8

Not so bad this rum, I wouldn't have thought. Has a very spicy and somehow wintry nose. On the palate it is also very spicy, I can recognize pepper and caraway here. Better than expected.

On the nose polish and fruit (plum/peach). Moderate sweetness, fruit remains in the mouth and in the finish. Wood spice then dominates in the mouth and lingers a bit on the palate.

A few years ago this was my first rum from sugarcane juice. I found it much more exciting than a Clement VSOP I tried afterwards because of the strong toasting of the Cognac barrels. Overall the alcohol is well integrated and it is dry but still has slight caramel notes. Also comes with a light spiciness. In later tastings I found it a bit less spectacular but still a good entry for sugarcane juice rum.
