Sip this one neat, slowly — it opens up in the glass. Members find tropical fruit (pineapple, mango, banana) and vanilla up front, then it turns woody and spicy with tobacco, leather and a cooling menthol-eucalyptus streak. There's a light empyreumatic funk too — rubber, solvent, burnt sugar. Complex for only 8 years, and the 59.6% is very well integrated. Fruity nose, but the oak and spice can dominate the palate.

4 Chairmans in direct comparison: 1. Chairmans 1802 very fruity, vanilla, increasingly more spice, balanced, becoming sweeter on the palate over time. Lots of bourbon influence. 8.5 points. 2. Chairmans Rum&Co comparatively more fruit, especially cherry. Vanilla and sweet on the finish. 8.5 points. 3. Chairmans 2008, Rhumattitude Completely different, lots of bourbon influence and even more coconut! Similar to a Foursquare or Belize rum. 81 points. 4. Chairmans Excellencerhum Very astringent, lots of herbs, wood, fruits in the aftertaste. 87 points.

This one had a really pleasant nose and kind of mislead me honestly. The taste was a little shocking to be honest. Not bad, but just so spicy and oak barrel flavored that I felt like I was in the barrel. It’s a great one, but situational.

8,7:On the nose, grassy and flowery molasses, smoky bacon, creamy roasted wood notes like nuts, spicy vanilla, anise, allspice, fruits like green apple, pear, banana, rubber, bump into our nosetrils. On aeration, grass is hay, molasses brings tobacco, minty touch, is fermented, as pineapple, pastry and caramel arise. 8,6:On the palate, the attack is fruity with citrus, yellow and tropical(banana) fruits, sweet with roasted wood notes like caramel, burnt sugar, nuts, confectionery with fruitcake, spicy with vanilla, ginger, umami, slightly resinous, as the molasses is vegetal with eucalyptus, tobacco and black tea. 8,6:The finish is long, dry&tannic, some esters are obvious, with roasted wood notes, smoky, salty, spicy, pairing mineral, fresh(tea), grassy molasses, minty, earthy with cigar tobacco, dark with licorice and tropical, citrus fruits, peaches. A very nice bottling, I immediately have an apricot scent on the nose. Combined with mint and citrus marmalade... very promising. On the palate the same interplay at first, but relatively quickly switches to dark chocolate, wood, licorice and allspice. Creamy and intense it comes across. The finish is then further on the heavy side with wood, tannins and black tea.

Pour un première fois a Saint-Lucie je suis complètement conquis. On a toute sorte de fruits la dedans avec ce boisé (Toasté / Fumé) qui nous amène des épices douces (Cannelle / Vanille) du chocolat ainsi qu'une grosse gourmandise (Pâtissier). De plus cette long fermentation distillé en pot amène des notes empyreumatiqued qui se marient parfaitement avec le reste (Cuivre / Caoutchouc / Plastique / Vinaigre). On trouve aussi des notes surprenante que je m'attendais pas à trouver la dedans comme une belle fraîcheur assez végétale traduit par (Eucalyptus / Thé noir / Sève / Céréales), alors que a côté de cela, cette grosse mélasse apporte aussi du (Caramel brûlé / Sirop d'érable). Tout a fait mon style de rhum. Vraiment sympa !

With only 8 years a relatively young Chairman's compared to others within the Master's Selection. With a nice balance of wood, sweetness, spiciness and fruit (apple, pear, banana / tropical fruits). A bit of rubber, eucalyptus and tea. Strong for its age.

Unfortunately this rum doesn't fully convince me, but it is a high-quality product. Smoke notes and earthy aromas are too dominant for my taste. If you like those, the rum rates much higher. Otherwise, there is also a lot of fruit, vanilla, floral, spices.

Very good Chairman's, hadn't had one for too long. This one is very fruity on the nose, especially tropical fruits, but also has some caramel and wood. On the palate wood and tropical fruits are balanced. Also some vanilla.

Only 8 years old and already so complex, really impressive. Starts fresh and fruity with very subtly expressed esters, then is caught up by the barrel aromas with some spices as well as tobacco and leather. Additionally, a gentle hint of wood smoke and a bit of mint increase the complexity while the alcohol content is very well integrated. Great rum!

The longer the rum stayed in the glass, the more I liked it. At first, there was a somewhat disturbing smoky note. Over time it became fruitier (towards mango) and sweeter. Spices and a bit of black tea.

Burnt plastic, vinegar, sap, menthol and eucalyptus are the main markers, with some fruit here and there. Alcohol quite well integrated. Even if it's not really my style of rum, I recognize the quality of this one. Good value for money.

Chairman‘s Reserve Master’s Selection (Bar 1802) 2012 8y 59.6% Nose: Pickled ginger, kiwi, tiger balm, lemon balm, overripe pineapple and mango, tobacco, light leather, lemon zest, mint, sea buckthorn, starfruit, spicy oak. Palate: Powerful and oily in the mouth. Alcohol well integrated. Aromas similar to the nose, but with very nice chocolatey notes added. Finish: Long finish with great nut-nougat flavors. A really intense piece and a nice tasting experience

Excellent rum that noses fruity but then tastes very spicy. The spice overpowers the fruit a bit but it is lovely with a long finish. Unique… kinda Jamaican, kinda Barbados but really all its own.

Nez : bien plus mon kiff que le Berry bros, on est bcp plus dans la tram jamaïcaine sur celui-ci avec le maracuja, l’ananas confit/compoté, assez gourmand sur un fond de vanille. Avec une pointe de solvant, style vernis. Et y’a un petit côté heavy bien sympa qui alourdi tout ça avec des notes empyreumatique. J’ai commencé par dire que le nez me rappelait la Jamaïque mais au plus il s’ouvre au plus on se tourne vers un TDL. Après l’avoir lu j’ai aussi des notes de crème brûlée qui viennent / un rappel du sucre roux caramélisé. La bouche confirme l’impression du nez, on est dans quelque chose de très gourmand, avec des fruits tropicaux, de la pêche, du caramel, vanille sur un fond de bois. Alcool super bien intégré. On a un côté pâtissier aussi qui vient. Assez complexe, évolutif, pleins de choses qui viennent et difficile de discerner quoi un peu comme un TDL. Une finale très axée sur le bois avec l’amertume qui en découle mais c’est bien équilibré avec le fruité qui reste là pour balancer.

St. Lucia World Cup Tasting ultra fruity, ester-rich nose. Pure fruit basket that gradually gets some molasses and spices. So far my favorite nose. On the palate a sweet round touch, tastes like an Appleton on speed, I really like that!
