Superb Caroni

Beeindruckende Nase einerseits nach Toffee, Karamell, gelben Früchten und Holz, andererseits nach zurückhaltend dreckigen Noten von Klebstoff, Teer und Gummi. Wow, genialer dreckiger Geschmack mit ausgeprägtem Teer und etwas Gummi. Trotzdem süß mit Karamell, braunem Zucker und Fass. Der Abgang ist lang mit teerigen Noten und einer tollen frische von Zitrusfrüchten, sowie warmen Noten von dunkler Schokolade. Tolle Geschmacksexplosion eines sehr guten 96er Caroni.

Ein ganz toller Caroni. Ölige Konsistenz, je länger im Mund desto sirupartiger, viel dunkle Schokolade, im Antritt etwas pfeffrig, Alkohol easy eingebunden. Langer Abgang, viel Fass (positiv). Toll!

The caramel is lighter on this one, but still nice and round in the overall profile. The nose has roasted wood, tar and rubber right off the bat with fruit caramel, vanilla and chocolate trailing closely being. In the back there is leather and some nuttyness. The palate is intense, complex and lightly bitter with roasted wood, tar and rubber followed by fruit, caramel and burnt sugar. I also find menthol and leather in there. The finish is long and lightly bitter with roasted wood and a medicinal note i can't put my finger on.

Sehr frisch, schweres Karamell, Hustensaft, Harz, Holz und dann noch die typischen Teer und Gumminoten. Schwer, voll und perfekt geschmolzen. Wooooow!! Sehr würzig und voll im Mund. Viel Holz und Gewürze im Abgang. Phänomenale Nase, sehr frisch. Danach zwar toll, aber sehr holzdominiert. Was ja nicht verwunderlich ist.

A lovely 1996 Caroni! A massive nose with notes of wood jump out. Strong in the palate with a lovely sweetness along with medicinal notes. Tar, rubber and wood and is also quite spices. A long lingering finish.

verkostet zusammen mit dem Breeze. Der Breeze wirkt an der Nase etwas runder, karamelliger und irgendwie kommen Assoziationen von Bohnerwachs auf (aus diesen ‚schrägen’ Tuben wie sie es früher gab). Der Roop kommt etwas frischer und stechender daher, Bergamotte und Kiefernholz im Hintergrund. Sind beide an der Nase noch eher zurückhaltend, kommen die Werkstatt-Noten am Gaumen dann aber brachial, einfach köstlich 🤤 Auch am Gaumen finde ich den Breeze etwas ausgewogener. Der Alkohol ist beim Roop nicht ganz so gut eingebunden.

Präfazit: für einen Velier Caroni, ganz nett Der Jahrgang 96, ist definitiv noch als solcher zu erkennen. Allerdings ist der Rum schon sehr auf der dreckigen Seite, ob ich hier wirklich blind auf 96 gekommen wäre, weiß ich nicht. Das macht den Rum auf der einen Seite sehr spannend und abwechslungsreicher, auf der anderen Seite schwebt über allem so sehr der Alkohol, dass da in der Nase nicht mehr all zu viel anzukommen scheint. Im Mund kommen für mein Empfinden sehr viel Menthol und Kräuter durch. Guter Rum, bleibt jedoch hinter der Konkurrenz klar zurück

Fifth employee of the evening. On the nose there are many sweet notes, crème brulee, coffee and chocolate, but followed by rubber and rubber. The palate has a sweet profile with hints of technique and fruit notes. The finish is long and woody with leather.

Epic Velier Caroni Tasting 2023: The great age is recognizable by the pronounced barrel influence, which nevertheless still allows enough tension in the profile so as not to be completely overlaid. In the midfield of the 1996 Caronis, which overall describes an excellent rum.

"Here I find the bitterness of burnt sugar and at the same time some sweetness of caramel. Subtle menthol, but not as blatant as in other Caroni from the Employeer range. Rubbery and somewhat metallic on the finish. The alcohol is also very elegantly integrated here. A great rum, but not quite as far ahead as the Manmohan."
