The twist here: a Port Mourant from Guyana finished in Hampden casks, so it drinks more like a Jamaican than a Demerara. Ester, pineapple, banana and prickly citrus lead, with PM's spice underneath and a roasted edge. At 60.3% the heat shows late. Several tasters couldn't tell where Guyana ended and Jamaica began — the fun of the bottle for some, the flaw for others.

Guyana meets Jamaica – what you usually know from one or another Navy blend is interpreted here in a new way. Normally I'm not a fan of finishes, but this rum always excites me. A Jamaican funk is clearly present, yet this bottling doesn't scream Hampden as other finishes in their casks do. Somehow the two styles have mixed here and produced something new; I don't know where I would have assigned it blind! Something different, exciting, and at a decent price. I gladly pour myself this often.

The Hampden finish clearly dominates. Ester, banana, pineapple and then the spiciness in the PM, all with sparkling lemon. A continental aged PM with Hampden finish, that's really not my style. But in the end it wasn't that bad.

Here the Hampden cask has somewhat flattened the Guyana rum. Blind for me an ester-rich Jamaican rum served with fermented fruits in yogurt. The 60% ABV comes through a bit too clearly on the finish.

An experiment that, for me, did not succeed. The nose still quite interesting, unripe banana in nougat sauce and a hint of salt. Taste-wise, not my thing, bitter, alcoholic, sharp. The Hampden cask just doesn't fit, it overpowers the Guyana genes and the rum is simply not round. But it's enough for a "Good". 😉

Hampden barrel finish that doesn't fully convince and somewhat confuses the drinking experience. There was beeswax, honey, paraffin, slightly fruity, well-integrated alcohol but everything slips away a bit anonymously and with little personality... needs a rethink 🤔
