#5194 02.04.2025 Running through some samples at home. Nose Light, light sweet, light wood, citrus, light caramel, light banana, honey. Palate Light, sweet, light wood, fruits, light citrus, light caramel, light honey, light dry. Finish Medium long, sweet, light wood, faint roasted, light citrus, faint caramel, faint herbal. Empty glass Vanilla, caramel, dried fruit.

Convinces with a pleasant mix of vanilla, banana, caramel, oak wood, and subtle spices, but at the same time it lacks some depth and individuality. Otherwise, a solid, balanced sipping rum that is easy to enjoy.

Relatively wild & dirty with so much glue/petrol. Very unusual for a Trinidad. Mint, caramel syrup, dried fruit and lots of spices on the palate. But it's not really harmonious. Too sweet and at the same time too "dirty".

Quite its flavours. A hospital with sweet syrup. Taste shows TDL mintiness/mintiness, but loaded with sugar. A terrible shame for me. If it wasn't for the overly sweetness I would enjoy this rum. As it is, I feel a missed opportunity on the finish. Edit: slight reduction in rating. The sweetness is a detriment.

A very round rum. Pleasant spiciness with dry fruit on the nose, e.g. raisins. Then on the palate with a nice sweetness, spiciness from the cask, fruit covered by a little smoke. The molasses in particular lingers relatively long on the finish.

Description: Cane Island single estate Trinidad 8 years, 8 years old, 43% Cane Island is an independent bottler offering rums from the Caribbean and Latin America, aged exclusively under tropical climate. This rum is column distilled, aged under tropical climate, from the TDL distillery, aged in American white oak barrels for a full 8 years. Nose: caramel, vanilla and round Palate: spicy, caramel, vanilla, round but with some "kick back" of spice. Finish: medium, remains caramelized and vanilla, well balanced. Conclusion: I just saw the bottle was 40€, seems like a good price at around ±10€. Very nice to discover. Would I buy a bottle? No. Except if it costs 30 euros because as a sipping rum it is very interesting.

You can find typical Angostura notes in it. Menthol and medical, dirt all is there. Then also quite a lot sugar and integration of alcohol is not so gut. I have consumed two bottles in mixures and it goes well with coke.

A surprise from the 24 rums calendar. I taste an oily tar note here. I don't read anything about that in the other reviews. Strange. I'll have to get myself a bottle and keep testing.

Quite sweet in the taste, unexpectedly sweet. Mostly chocolate, cream, vanilla and caramel with hints of wood on the 👅. 👃 Is completely different without any note of sweetness, providing slight alcoholic odour with notes of vanilla and oak/wood. Somewhere in the background you can smell sort of a gas like natural gas that is being used in home for cooking. I could not choose gas so I went with petrol which is closest. Overall taste is very good, nose is a little bit less interesting, or not at all really. Short to medium finish. Next one I will pour my self an angostura 1919 for direct comparison.

The trace of "Trinidad" is clearly noticeable, a very drinkable and tasty rum. Decently fragrant and does not evaporate. Gentle alcohol, beautifully carries through to the end. Will definitely be added to the collection.

Woody base note, a bit of banana with typical caramel tone. Wood and banana, but very subtle on the palate, spicy base note, oily and round. Medium finish, spicy wood remains.

Sample no.14 of the 24 days of rum calendar 2022. Very sweet nose of ripe bananas and vanilla. Some notes of honey aswell. Palate is warm and sweet with tropical fruits.

According to me, the Trinidad rums are special. TDL and Caroni are peculiar. TDL has its unique mint smell and taste, which I could find in all of there rums. This one is not exception. Technical and fresh smell with delicate taste of menthol, orange and oil. Harder to swallow, the aftertaste is weaker, but for 8y old rum is ok.

Read full review ›Other than being just a little too sweet and easy going for my personal tastes this overall is not a bad rum. It's just pretty ordinary. It is easy to sip and is perhaps also reminiscent of the Barceló rums from the Dominican - particularly the Imperial Blend.
