Velier Hampden Trelawny Endemic Birds (White Eyed Thrush) OWH 2012
If you already collect Hampden and want the estate's quieter side, this OWH mark is the low-ester one. The nose pulls you in — orange peel, banana, toasted wood, a bit of leather — but several tasters find the palate thins out, going woody and spicy with the fruit fading fast. It needs air in the glass to open. At 60.2% the alcohol integration divides the room.

How does Velier Hampden Trelawny Endemic Birds (White Eyed Thrush) OWH 2012 taste?
Aggregated from 10 community reviews.
Low-ester Hampden, great nose, lighter palate Praised as a proper Hampden on the nose but marked down where it counts: a lighter, woodier palate, a short-ish fruit finish, and heat that not everyone finds well tucked in.

22.05.2021 A nice tasting with a few friends and a lot of participants. Notes Light to medium dark in colour. Nose Light wood, fruity, banana, light caramel, spice, light ester, light floral. Palate Wood, tannins, fruity, overripe, spice, light roasted, faint chocolate, light floral. Finish Medium long, wood, banana, light chocolate, light vegetal, faint floral. Extra note. Needs to rest for a good while to make it settle down and release all its flavours.

Alkohol exzellent eingebunden.

On the nose: Light palate in overall. Mostly light wood, leather and barrel notes. Orange peel, light cinnamon and light esters. Taste: Fruity, alcoholic and woody notes at first. Spices like pepper are in the background. Then you get citrus notes like orange peels, light ginger notes and maybe hints of coffee notes. The palate gets better when you hold it for a while in your mouth. The alcohol could be integrated better. Finish: Woody, leather and bitter. Medium finish This does have its moments, but the abv integration and the finish drops the score for me.
Review by DutchRumPirate
The nose is fruity, with light oak and a touch of honey. On the palate, it's light and this is also evident, with spiciness and esters and dry fruit. A touch of licorice, milk chocolate, and nuts emerge in the back. The finish is medium.
