"The wood can be pretty dominant but not a bad rum" sums it up well — this 15-year Saint James agricole leans dark and oaky, with prunes, raisins, dried apricot, vanilla and a cigar-box, leathery edge. The nose wins nearly everyone over; the palate turns spicier and drier. A few tasters wished it had more texture, and some found the oak a touch heavy.

26.09-28.09.2026 Whisky Live Paris Still a very nice bottling with a good price tag in my mind. ------ RETASTING ------ The wood can be pretty dominant but not a bad rum. Light tannins and nice fruits. The ABV is well integrated.

Overall a very nice Agricole with great flavors from Saint James, but when I tasted it together with the 12yo, appreciated the 12yo more. It’s full of flavors from the barrel, vanilla and fruits, but I think it tastes a little little bit too much oak to run out the 12yo.

8:On the nose the aromas explode in your face from the very first moment. Both fresh and deeply spicy, the nose is very woody and expressive. It succeeds in combining strong notes of velvety honey with intoxicating power. The woodiness is finely spiced and very classy, like a cigar box. Still in these very woody tones, we now smell the slight smoke. Licorice and a mix of dried fruits, including apricot, diffuse their aromas in this warmth. Aeration confirms the complexity and richness of this rum. Peanut paste adds thickness and the finesse of a stone brandy shows another sign of distinction. This is a concentrated, generous and fragrant rum. The chocolate is gourmand, the cane sophisticated and concentrated to the point of becoming a golden, sticky resin. 8,5:The palate is natural and raw. This old rum manages to retain the soul of its youth, with a peppery cane. It is both complex and smooth, with astringent wood and melting tannins on the tongue. The dried fruit is savory and mellow, the prune is fleshy, but the spices are lively enough to sustain the rum's ardor, which is diffused without losing its intensity. 8,3:Candied cane, dried fruit, licorice and mellow tannins never leave the palate once tasted..

A rum tasted at the Rhum Fest in 2024. A nose with dolvants and old wood, tropical fruits, vegetal with a slight menthol. On the palate the old cask dominates, but the fruits and menthol restore the balance. The finish is long, on fruits and a controlled woodiness.

Good Agricole with a pleasant caramel nose, with wood, chocolate and lots of fruit. Floral notes are rather in the background. So the nose is pretty awesome, but in the mouth then too spicy sharp and woody for my taste. Fruit and caramel is still found and also remains hanging. The price is in any case already somewhat elevated.

👃 = there is a certain freshness despite its age followed by candied orange and apricot, wood, vanilla and a bit of prune. 👄 = with that you also find mango, chocolate, mild spices and dried fruits wrapped in a nice roundness, ending on a normal and warm length. The 15 years is for all rum lovers, to be enjoyed with your eyes closed 😋

Nice nose, dried fruits, prunes, raisins, dates with a sensation of sugar on the nose. On the palate it’s rather oily, a bit heavy, it lacks a bit of finesse. Cherry is the predominant aroma. The finish is woody with an aftertaste of nuts. Honorable rum but lacking finesse to become exceptional.

The spirit of Saint James in all its splendor. The nose is inviting, particularly fruity with notes of peach, plum, dried grape, and raspberry. Floral notes and sugarcane add to the wood and mild spices for a complete, elegant, and expressive profile. The attack on the palate shifts direction and is more concentrated. Woody, slightly smoky, and spicy notes recall the distillery's typical dark profile. Dried and candied fruits, sugarcane, and caramel bring roundness and sweetness to this dry but elegant rum. The finish, quite long, is elegant, dry, and extremely dark. Notes of dried fruits, aromatic herbs, and roasted hazelnuts add real value to the final product. Oak, toast, chili, and leather offer a homogeneous and structured finish. A rum of very beautiful complexity, remarkable depth and elegance, offered at a price that absolutely beats all competition.

The highlight of the evening?! To be balanced with the XO, but then the prices go up. It's clearly something different compared to the other SJ. Also a nice discovery. In summary, my tasting notes: Nose: Woody, Tobacco, Varnish. Palate: Woody, Fruit brandy, Prunes, Nutmeg. Finish leaning towards: Clove, Woody.

08/03/2026: Brussels Rhum Festival @ Tour & Taxis. Overall a very nice Agricole from Saint James with an impressive 15 years of tropical aging. Only ex-Bourbon barrels are used for this release. Nice balance between fruit, wood and spices.

A very pleasent rum. Round and smooth. However the finish is long tickles the tongue like small fine step toes or a ballerina dancing in the mouth.. Which gives it more depth and nuances compared to the 12 year old.
