Clairin fans who want the wild white spirit softened but not tamed will find their bottle here. Aging rounds off Le Rocher's earthy, almost mezcal-like edge, but the roasted meat, smoke and solvent still come through, now joined by red fruit — strawberry and black currant on the palate. One taster calls it "very different from the unaged, the cask really blends well." Wood influence stays light, and the finish falls off short.

These clairin bottlings have gone somewhat unnoticed but in my opinion they remain the most faithful to the whites! A few years of aging and skillful use of barrels have respected the originality and peculiarities of clairin without distorting it!

On the nose, first thing I get is red fruits, followed by Le Rocher aromas I had in the unaged version, roasted meat, canne juice and solvants. The mouth is delicious, it opens again on red fruits, and more precisely, strawberries and black currant. It's followed again by sweet sugarcane juice and a bit of funky notes, glue or solvants. On the second mouth I also have some tea. Wood influence is minimal. I'm surprised the roasted meat notes got tamed that much by the ageing. Final is short, ends up on red fruits tea before falling into nothing. This one is delicious, it's on par with the Clairin Sajous Ansyen I rated before (RX17244), minus one point for the short final. As always with Clairin, amazing price quality ratio.

Really good Clairin. The Bielle cask aging gives Le Rocher an unusual depth and intensity and nicely complements the slightly earthy, almost mezcal-like aromas typical of La Rocher. Despite only 46% ABV and a somewhat short finish, the aromas still linger longer. Exciting, different, recommendable.

A brilliant rum! This three-year-old clairin is already superb: we find the character of the clairin blanc (meat, smoked, roasted, esters) but a little softened. I'd be very curious to see what a Rocher between 5 and 8 years old could give.
