New Yarmouth S.B.S Jamaica 1994
The surprise here is how un-Jamaican it drinks: barely any of the ester funk you'd expect, just wave after wave of coconut, chocolate, toffee and creamy caramel. A few tasters even said it reads more like a Foursquare or a Panama rum. There's a little glue and solvent on the nose, and the old cask shows as some roast and bitterness. Rich, creamy, dessert-like — a "genuine pastry."

How does New Yarmouth S.B.S Jamaica 1994 taste?
From community reviews · summarized with AI
Creamy coconut-chocolate Jamaican, low on funk Loved for its creamy coconut-and-chocolate profile, though several note it's atypical for Jamaica and, being reduced, a touch thin with some cask bitterness compared to other NY94s.

Dadar gulung in liquid as you know it from Bali! Caramelized coconut chips with baked banana in perfection. extremely tasty and different from many other 94 new Yarmouths! mega intense and very tasty, but also a bit charred and barrel-heavy, bitter in the finish. Overall, despite the reduced alcohol content, definitely the sweetest and fruitiest of them all! Great stuff.

Nose very much like glue. The palate keeps this glue with a bit of bitterness and the tire takes over at the end of the palate.
Review by Oliver
Unusually much coconut for a NY1994. Nice power and still quaffable. Pleases me very well!
Review by Jakob
Typical notes for the 1994 Vintage. Caramel, fruit esters, spice and wood aromas. Unfortunately, the barrel seems to have had quite an impact here, relatively roasty and bitter. In direct comparison to other representatives of the vintage, in the midfield.
Review by Basti
On the palate dried fruits and caramel, but also dominant woody and bitter notes. The finish is also woody and bitter. Alcohol is very well integrated. I like it overall, but after the first impression not a top NY94 representative.
Review by Kevin Sorensen 🇩🇰
This one is really good and despite the age the wood is not overly dominant. Fruity with spices, lovely caramel and leather and some chocolate in the background. Should have bought a few bottles when still available 😊
Review by Gregor
A very great Jamaican. Before tasting and smelling necessarily let the glass stand a few minutes. It is gentle and not too intrusive but still full of character and length. Melting, creamy after coconut.
Review by Rene Pfeiffer
Super quaffable. I like the 94 NY. The SBS has more coco like the VM, the RA is more intense and overall for me still a bit better than SBS and VM.
Review by Serge
1994 New Yarmouth with the usual high level – even if it's really not a top representative. Lots of coconut and dark chocolate. Palate nicely creamy & full-bodied but also very roasty with lots of wood. At 57% it's a bit thin compared to the vintage. Possibly a slightly over-wooded barrel, which was mellowed by dilution? If so, that actually worked quite well.
Review by TheRhumhoe
A superb New Yarmouth that wants to be rich, delicate, and tasty. The nose is adorned with exotic fruits (banana, coconut) before giving way to some very light solvent and glue notes. The woodiness is fine, blended into the background where spices, chocolate, and roasted hazelnuts serve as ornaments. A nose that makes you think. The attack on the palate is exquisite. Coconut opens the ball, then come intense, warm, and spicy woody notes, before an extreme indulgence invades the palate: chocolate, almond, toffee, marzipan, notes of honey and caramel cream give an unexpected sweetness to this profile that initially seems intense and characterful. The finish is very long, focused on the same indulgence that makes it successful: chocolate, hazelnut, caramel cream, coffee, licorice, vanilla, and slightly toasted notes delight the taste buds. A rum of endless pleasure, which even with a few degrees less than other profiles, leaves you dreaming.
Review by Skyfly
A crazy combination of coconut and glue on the nose, something you probably only experience with rum. On the palate, besides coconut, wood, caramel and chocolate aromas dominate. The extremely soft finish is characterized by woody notes. Very creamy rum, lucky to still have a bottle in the cellar :)
Review by Martin Augustin
On the nose, sweet notes of coconut and honey dominate with some glue. This continues on the palate, with less glue, more vanilla, and slightly bitter. A soft finish with caramel follows at the end. Unusual, but good.

A genuine pastry 😋

Chose this for my 250th rum tasting (be not irritated, I did not publish my earliest ones as they are without any notes) from my sample box. Had it I two separate sessions one at the river (picture) and one at home. The first try was a bit thin on the tongue, but that was expected in not ideal circumstances. It already had some power. The second try had a long time to breathe obviously und was much more intense tastewise. I got what I expected from a NY of this age, wood and spice was there and gave it a classic background. The Alcohol is not harsh, and in the aftertaste I was surprised by a sudden appearance of slight jamaican Funk. Nice!

A not so typical Jamaica rum, where the nose is a bit less estery. Fresh in the nose with hints of dried fruits and red berries. In the notes it has a lot of coconut, and honey-like sweetness and the wood leaves and impression in the taste

At first it seems a bit strange that the expected ester notes don't want to come up at all, but once you get into it, you get a really good, round rum here.
Review by Rodolphe
Excellent. Very greedy, very pastry-like, no fruity funk. Alcohol very well integrated. Very round and well patinated by the years without being marked by eucalyptus and menthol. Just great.
Review by Pavel Spacek
Beautifully sweet, creamy, like caramel. A great choice for rum lovers who want to transition from sweet syrups to pure distillate. New Yarmouth 1994 rarely disappoints. This is a great choice you'll always be happy to return to.
Review by Johannes
The alcohol is better integrated compared to the 94 Rum Artesanal, but the finish is a bit flat and short.
Review by Thunderbird
A New Yarmouth of a somewhat different kind! Not the full ester power, rather restrained, but very pleasantly soft... a feeling of summer sets in with the pleasure! Delightful!
Review by Jesper Petersen
also not classic new but should be considered though 2k

The NY94 has never disappointment me. But this rum is such a joy to sip. An absolutely lovely nose that draws you in, I got notes of chocolate, oak, spice, bananas and acetone. The body has a fair bit of chocolate and over ripe fruits. Nice lingering peppery finish, perhaps a bit mellow, definitely drew me to that one more sip. Such a delight this one!
Review by Nils123
Good balance between wood/spice and fruitiness. Also very nice chocolate notes, which, alongside the fruit notes, become even clearer with a few drops of water. 🙂 The bitterness in the finish is very low. However, compared to RX 12556, it clearly falls short.
Review by Filip Šikula
My favorite vintage from this Jamaican distillery. Unfortunately, the bottling from 1423 is rather one of the weaker ones compared to the competition, but still a perfect rum. The creamy round taste is unmistakable, although it’s a bit more coconutty than elsewhere.
Review by Boletus
The 1994 vintage of New Yarmouth is simply a solid choice if you like well-aged column still rum from Jamaica without significant ester influence. This bottling is no exception, but I find a slightly perfumed, subtle soapiness in the taste that somewhat diminishes my enjoyment. Still, a very good and creamy rum with an appealing, natural base sweetness.
Review by Leo Krüper
For the 400th tasting on RumX a nice SBS. Unfortunately, I lack something the comparisons for New Yarmouth, but overall a nice quaffable rum with lots of sweet wood. Reminds little of other Jamaican rums. Would almost rather locate him in Panama.

Impression to taste a foursquare. This coconut caramel or chocolate is very pronounced. Very sweet in the mouth. Just a pity for the length but it is very good.. A bit confusing for a 26 years old Jam
Review by Martin Mihaly
Interesting New Yarmouth, good year. Slightly sweet nose, vanilla, raisins, solvent, tropical fruits and honey. On the palate nicely sweet, spicy, a delicious drink. All well connected together. And in the end a good finish, sweet, warm and fruity with coconut notes.
Review by Julian_P
On the nose and palate, strong associations with the typical Foursquare profile. A nice mix of woody, fruity and spicy notes. Thanks to Skyfly for the great sample.

Nose: round velvety tropical fruit Mouth: very good, fruit, tobacco, a bit dusty astringent side
Review by Michal S
Interesting rum, it shows 26 years. Smooth rich aroma, nice complex taste.

I love the coconut note in this rum. The only thing that bothers me is that it says Jamaica on it, you wouldn't place the rum there blind and that somehow triggers a 'something's off' in my mind. I didn't rate the price here (in tasting the taste counts), but you have to admit it's unfortunately clearly above what one is willing to pay for this rum. Nevertheless... Coconut Baby!
Review by Jacques etdom
Coconut oil dominates the nose. You also find some fruits, including banana. The palate is very soft, even too much for my taste. Quite flat, it is not on the level of the other NY 94 (why dilute it?). A rather borderline bitterness on the finish. Not at all at the level of the top NY 94 bottlings. Quite disappointed in the end.

Vintage 1994. I rate it 8.9 out of 10, an excellent rum that ranks high even among my more than 1,300 ratings.
Review by Marko Finta
We liked the NY 1994 from CoR or FRC more, but this rum also belongs to a series of excellent ones!!
Review by Herr K
Delicious 1994 NY. I smell banana and coconut, but I also smell solvent and glue. Not unpleasant, but noticeable. However, it tastes creamy and sweeter than expected. Yes, there is a bit of wood, but I hardly taste any bitterness, unlike a previous speaker. I actually like it very much.
Review by Michael Janek
smell of chocolate Tastes like a Light Chocolate Caress, but it's got the canagome in there all the time

Unlike other bottlings of the New Yarmouth 1994, the SBS version is a) diluted and b) has clearly pronounced coconut aromas. The rum is extremely creamy and pleasant for 57% ABV. The striking coconut note makes it interesting, but I miss the ester notes so typical for Jamaica. This bottling feels more like a funky rum from Guyana than a gentle Jamaican. It is very smooth.
