The surprise here is how thin it plays for a "Gran Reserva" — several tasters found the nose faint and the body watered-down at 40%. What's there is easy: caramel, raisins, vanilla, a little wood, and a moderate sweetness. A couple noticed a coffee-and-licorice twist on the finish, but it fades fast. Probably one of the reasons for the reputation of the Spanish rum style: A bit of fruit, a bit of wood and otherwise just sweet... In the finish there's a quite interesting note between coffee and licorice, but apart from that not my thing.

You are greeted by a very subtle scent of fruits and wood. However, this scent is rather thin and barely noticeable. On the palate, vanilla and chocolate join the fruits. Overall a good rum but nothing extraordinary.

The taste has a pleasant sweetness with hints of fresh vanilla as well as a touch of coffee and dark chocolate that adds depth and complexity.

Going from pure memory as I tried this one at least 3 years ago. Raisins, vanilla, bit of wood and pretty lovely sweetness although the taste was a bit mild kind of diluted. The Patridom XO is very similar but heavier on the flavor and does not feel diluted.

Only a slightly sweet smell, a bit like sherry, a bit like glue, slightly alcoholic burning but not unpleasant. The first taste is slightly bitter and spicy, then the sweetness comes through. This also lasts in the finish.

Rather pleasant rum to drink. Recommended for a beginner who wants to start with rather sweet rums with caramel aromas. It's good but you forget it once swallowed. No length on the palate. The quality/price ratio is very fair.

The rum has little to offer. Nose thin, palate also quite thin. The taste reminded me of salty licorice with alcoholic sharpness. 😳

The first stroke is the sugar, next the alcohol and a bit of spices, and then that it has been watered down to 40%. To me or seems to have been watered too much and then some sugar and molasses has been added, maybe even a bit of spice. Clearly a good ground product that has been stretched too much for connoisseurs. Obviously made for those with taste for sweeter rum or for using dark rum in good drinks. For that however it is quite awesome and a very good product, so my rating of 5.5 only reflects that it for me is a Tuesday rum (everyday rum), for drinks and in deserts, but a very worthy product.
