TRC Uitvlugt (Port Mourant) Guyana PM 1997
Built for people who already love Port Mourant and want one that goes somewhere unexpected. Black tea runs through the whole thing — several tasters say green or "particularly pale black tea" — alongside herbs, tropical fruit, green apple and a notably dry, almost salty palate. The 54% feels well-tucked. Pale for 23 years, and most agree the finish is shorter than the age suggests.
- Black tea note
- Well-integrated alcohol
- Complex and herbal

How does TRC Uitvlugt (Port Mourant) Guyana PM 1997 taste?
Aggregated from 60 community reviews.
Dry, tea-and-herb-led aged Port Mourant A genuinely complex, herb-and-tea-driven PM that most rate highly, with very well-integrated alcohol. The recurring catch: a finish that's surprisingly short for the age. A few find the profile too dry or one-note.

Very round, delicious rum from Guyana - Uitvlugt. Very pleasant to drink, i would say a rum for every day. Alcohol is integrated very well. Also the wood isn‘t dominant here, but well noted in the finish. Price per value is very good too. PN This one need some time to fully open uo Nose: Solvents, nail polish, delicious, fresh, black tea, herbal, some lovely notes of anise, trop. fruits, apricot, yellow fruits, sour, orange, prunes, citrus, young wood Mouth: dry, delicious, sharpness, round, full bodied, complex, olive, herbal, black tea, sweet, brown sugar, maple, trop. fruits, prunes, fruity, blum, salty, oak(barrel), roasted, vanilla Finish: medium, dry, round, tannins, black tea, trop. fruits, vanilla, leather, oak (barrel), toasted, roasted

Super komplex. Viele Aromen. Geiler Stoff. Abgang eher kurz.

Very tempting rum, especially on the nose. Predicate: a lip licker. 😋

Keine Fehler. Der Alkohol ist sauber eingebunden. Das Produkt ist lang anhaltend und komplex. Rundum ein schöner Vertreter für guyana

Very nice, elegant and complex flavor profile, well balanced between fruit, sweetness and the typical PM notes. Only the very short, unspectacular finish prevents an even higher rating.

Retating today. Still find it delicious, but to be fair to other rums I tried in the meantime, Im moving it down a point, beautiful nose, could be more complex on the mouth. I find it delicious and interesting. On the nose unusual tropical fruits, green apple, some mirabelles and fresh wood. herbs and olives appear in taste, finish mostly feel green tea, medium length.

Edit: I like it better and better every time I try it Guyana, a completely different taste in the rum world for me. As I've never dealt intensively with this category before, it's difficult to describe my first impressions. Very interesting in any case. Definitely makes you want more. I think I'll have to taste it again, definitely.

Sehr komplex, im Aroma tropische Früchte und Gewürze, am Gaumen eher vegetal. Durch Wasser wird er süßer und flacher. Angesichts des Alters vergleichsweise kurzer Abgang.

They exist, the inspiring continental aged Uitvlugts from the 90s. This bottling confirms that exemplary for the 1997 vintage; no style break to various other releases of the same vintage, the typical green, fruity and spicy notes play here but in the big orchestra and dare to go to extremes without overflowing. To stay in the musical context, the difference to other releases of comparable vintages and Marques could probably be described with a performance of the local brass band and that of the preferred philharmonic orchestra - the melody may remain recognizable, but the sophistication of the performance is at home in different leagues. Very successful!

Perfekt eingebundenen Alkohol richtig toller Rum. Viele kräuterig teeige Noten gepaart mit tropischen Früchten.Wenn gleich mich Port Mourant nicht immer zu überzeugen weiß. Schlichtweg Tagesform abhängig.
Review by Rowald Sweet Empire
Lots of green tea in this one. Dry. Cranberry. Green apple/fruits. Very spirit driven, hardly any wood influence. The complexity hides within its dry tones. Its a pleasant drop but also a bit a-typical for a P.M. because of that dryness.

Vertical PM tasting: 89 / 95 /97 / 97 (cognac finish) / 02 / 05 / 13: Nose: Classic PM notes with some additional depth vs. the younger bottlings. Palate: nice complexity paying tribute to its age. Delivers what you would hope for in a continental PM with a nice touch of dried fruits.

Erstaunlich kurzer Abgang.

Schöner komplexer PM. Mein Favorit unter den post-70/80s.

Although really pale in color, it is not a boring rum! The nose is very flavorful, with dark fruits upfront (plums and dates), wet wood and lots of mildly sweet spices (anice and nutmeg). I the background I can sense a grassy note (I agree with the community, which senses a tea flavor). The palate is very warm and spicy, the tea is still there, although I apparently lost the dark fruits, which are covered by the alcohol burn. The finish is kinda odd, with wood and lychees with a dry bitterness from the tea.
