Caroni Kill Devil (The Whisky Barrel) HTR 1998
Made for Caroni heads who want the heavy industrial side turned all the way up. Rubber, tar and smoky oak lead, with a bitter, spicy palate and just a whisper of raisin underneath — a whisky-cask finish that one taster says "works very well." At 65.8% it drinks hot, and a drop of water plus some rest really opens it. Little fruit or sweetness to soften the blow.

How does Caroni Kill Devil (The Whisky Barrel) HTR 1998 taste?
Aggregated from 14 community reviews.
Heavy tar-and-rubber Caroni at cask strength Most Caroni fans rate it highly for its unapologetic tar-and-rubber assault. One dissenter found it all industrial notes and no balance — even water wouldn't coax out fruit.

Review by Kevin Sorensen 🇩🇰
Kill Devil make very good finishes on their rums and this one is no exception. At release the price was pretty good, but now it has surpassed the 450 euro maker. The nose is spicy with smoky oak and tar. There is a light note of rubber and some raisin in there as well, a well balanced nose actually. The palate is lightly bitter and spicy with smoky oak, tar and light rubber followed by fruits, caramel and tannins. The finish is long and surprisingly spicy with smoky wood and raisin. Resting and a drop of water really releases the flavours.

A zajem rostl. Caroni patri do kategorie rumu "you need to try before you die". Doporucuji, Caroni je opravdu unikatni rum.

Un beau caroni avec une final dominé par le Scotch. L'association marche très bien dans l'ensemble.

Read full review →Normally, I am a big fan of Caroni, but this is one that is just okay. This is just an all-out assault of those aggressive industrial notes. Plenty of that roadside construction site going on without any fruits or sweetness to balance it out. Somehow water doesn’t bring out any fruit either (and it still drinks a tad hot diluted for me). Overall, one of my least favorite Caroni rums I’ve tried.
