Here's the surprise: 21 years in a tropical climate and it still drinks light — several tasters call it a touch thin, especially the finish. The nose is the highlight, all yellow fruit, apple, quince and a whiff of glue over old oak. Palate turns woody with nutmeg and a dry, herbal agricole edge. Elegant and rounded, but at 43% it fades a little fast.

Nose: old Agricole, lots of wood, subtle notes of Caroni dirt, walnut, the nose reminds me of an old Agricole. Palate: yes, agricole confirmed but surprisingly fruity and not as woody as I had expected from the nose. Alcohol in the low range ~46% but not particularly well integrated. Hard to name a specific rum here.

Day 21 RumX Advent Calendar 2024: Relatively quickly recognized an Agricole today, but not necessarily my favorite profile. So I guessed J.M by chance, pure luck. Overall, I quite liked it, but still it feels very watered down and after standing time it gets a soapy/perfumed note at the back, which I just don't like.

RX Calendar 24: the sister cask of RX7561. I like the J.M on the nose - apple, quince, cinnamon stick, freshness, old oak barrel (old dresser). On the palate nutmeg, bitter, tannins, dry finish. The rather low ABV is no problem here.

Day 21 of the RumX Advent calendar: Well matured, round and elegant. However, a bit lacking in substance in consistency and fades too quickly to stay in memory longer. There are absolutely no off-flavors here and with repeated sipping a nice drinking feeling develops, but somehow something is missing for me to be fully taken in.

RumX Advent Calendar, Day 21. A full, silky nose, with herbal candy, tropical fruit, star fruit, and yellow fruit, quince. The attack on the palate is a little diluted, but immediately the aromas rise and the fruit invades the palate. The herbal sweetness is a little less pronounced, but the vegetal and even menthol notes are more pronounced than on the nose. The finish is long, tasty and fruity, with a pleasant candy-like sweetness.

Balanced, well-melted nose. For 21 years of aging, little wood. Excellent!! On the palate it then becomes very peculiar in a hard-to-describe way, I don't like it much. The soap note of the Velier Saint James series comes to mind. The finish then becomes nicer again. A rum with highs and lows, but overall very good. Thanks to Bonn!!

Retasting RumX Advent Calendar 2024, door 21 Clearly agricole on nose and palate. Agricoles are (mostly) not my thing. Same in this case. Doesn't grab me nearly as much as, for example, the Trois Rivières 1999 from the same calendar a few days ago. Simply too agricole for me. Objectively certainly very good, but just not my thing.

On opening citrus, cask, nail polish, later fruity and a bit sour? After 15 minutes then fruity, light sweetness and floral notes. In the mouth very agreeable, spicy, some wood with a clear Agricole finish. Easy drinking though somewhat thin.

RumX Advent Calendar 2024: No. 21 Today we very likely have an Agricole in the calendar. Probably Martinique. The very typical peppery notes are rather in the background here. Otherwise, we have very fruity and spicy influences with a slight sweetness. Very velvety on the finish.

Incredibly beautiful nose of dried apricots, Ceylon cinnamon, various dried herbs and citrus fruits. Aromatically then very round and elegant with bergamot, oak wood, nutmeg, apricot jam, tobacco and burnt sugar (crème brûlée). Unfortunately also a bit diluted and thin, a few % more would have done very well here. Still very tasty and well balanced! The nose promises more overall than can be delivered on the palate...

RumX Calendar 2024 Day 21: On the nose light fruits, apple, rather fresh. Continues on the mouth, is that a Calvados? :D Also herbs and cask. I'd guess a nice mid-aged Agricole? Bally? Medium-long finish, the cask spice lingers long on the tongue.

RumX Advent Calendar 2024 Day 21. Here a nice Agricole from J.M. The 21 years of aging show in the nose and on the palate, as you mostly get wood here. Furthermore, I find it quite spicy (nutmeg?), but still quite tasty.

RumX Advent calendar day 21 Very good Agricole but not outstanding. Brings all typical markers. Slightly woody with vegetal tones as well as nice vanilla and caramel notes. But the fruitiness is also quite present. A little addendum after longer standing time: the nose is really very good. The palate and finish don't quite convey this. In the end, the nice vanilla/wood mix is completely missing on the palate.

First impression: I’m there with an old agricole as well. Stunning nose with sweet candied fruit and pastry, even immediately after pouning it. Alcohol well integrated, below 50%? Elegant wood. After a while the agricole profile becomes more pronounced as well as some roasted wood. Great rum but it would have been beneficiary if it had some more power too it. With time it’s just a bit too thinn.

An Agricole from J.M with very low alcohol content. You can tell. It's a bit too thin for me, especially in the finish. Otherwise typical Agricole notes, some spices and quite a lot of wood. Not a bad Agricole, but also nothing that will stay in memory for long.

Blind tasting Advent calendar 2024: caramel nutty nose. Relatively inconspicuous. On the palate fatty notes with menthol. Slightly sweet at the back. Relatively low alcohol. But the finish gets nicer.

Roasty, smoky with a lot of cask influence. Floral, 43-48%, tropical aging at least 10 years. On the palate again a lot of cask influence, but also a bit watery. Here it is a bit thin. Overall very tasty and easy sipping. Would guess an HSE or Clement with special cask aging. Edit: My first old JM. Nose is excellent. Gets fruitier over time. On the palate though too thin. Pity. Probably a bomb at cask strength.

I'm pretty sure this is Martinique rhum. The astingency points me towards saint James, despite some similarities with some recent damoiseau are coming into my mind but I'll buy Saint James with some old bottling. Floral notes, some toasted coffee plus wood are easy to detect both on the nose and palate.

Beautiful, fruity-floral nose with pear, yellow fruits, and a bit of glue. On the palate then for me a really great and complex Agricole. Lots of yellow fruits, some spice, lightly floral, plus in the background the slightly grassy notes of a matured Agricole, all very elegant, round and well integrated. The alcohol is also well integrated, I would guess 50-55%. The finish is medium length with yellow fruits, nice sweetness and light spice. Really a great rum! Maybe a longer-aged Neisson?

Definitely Agricole. And I stick to Clement. Very subtle nose. Violets, floral, light fruit. Quite thin on the palate and surprisingly woody. Very woody, very bitter. Too woody in my opinion.

No doubt, we are in Martinique! A profile that seems very old. At opening you clearly smell the fruits but quite quickly the woody aromas take over. Dried fruits, cocoa, tobacco... With a nice intensity. For those who like these very rounded woody profiles, it's very nice! I prefer it to the classic 15-year-old from J.M.
