Enmore S.B.S Guyana REV 1994
One taster called it a "benchmarked Enmore," and that fits: 26 years of tropical wood push tobacco, licorice, dark chocolate and dried plum right to the front. Most people find it dark, heavy yet oddly easy to drink, with a very long finish. The recurring gripe is a lingering bitterness, and a few wish the 48.5% hit a bit harder.
The community says- Licorice and tobacco
- Long finish
- But: Lingering bitterness

How does Enmore S.B.S Guyana REV 1994 taste?
Summarized by AI from community reviews.
Dark, woody old Enmore with licorice depth Loved as a deep, woody REV full of licorice, tobacco and prunes. Two sticking points come up repeatedly: a persistent bitterness and an ABV some feel could be higher.

Not quite on the outstanding level of the other bottlings from 1994, which could possibly also be due to the lower alcohol content and the associated, somewhat reduced aromatics - but REV nevertheless remains an outstanding marque that knows how to convince constantly.

A little too woody and bitter for me. Could also have a few more percentages
Review by DomM
Compared to other ‘94 REVs, this so far has the ‚darkest‘ and thickest nose leaning towards herbal and more woody/smokey notes. This is also reflected on the palate making this one the most woody of the batch so far.

RumX Advent 8.12.23 Bittersweet Symphony🤩 Harmonious dark fruits with brown sugar. Heavy and woody, yet light and harmonious. It smells like demerara. Mixture of a bed of herbs, older, damp wood, plus iodine and vanilla. In the mouth tobacco, iodine, nectarine, peach, vanilla, dill, some lavender, plum, chocolate, leather, licorice, tobacco. Very long finish. Beautiful complexity. Great stuff and very tasty. It has a kind of heavy character, but is easy to drink. First class rum. Crosstasting REV 2025: 9.0

An exceptional rum, but too woody for my taste! But that's complaining on a high level! The rum is great! Edit: In the glass again today and I have to improve here. I suspect that my taste perception has changed somewhat. Today it seems much rounder and more accessible to me. Despite the relatively light ABV, it is very complex and deep. It develops a very wide range of dark aromas. 0.4 points upwards corrected

Wow! Edit:samplekill 08/04/2024 The nose is luscious and inviting. The balance between the ABV, the “dark elements” in the profile and the wood is just right. They chose the right time to bottle it. Originally (3 years ago) I scored it 9.4 and at that point in time it was justified. Now I took it down a bit as I’ve experienced quite a few rums in the meantime. Nevertheless it remains an excellent drop!

Beautiful REV. But for me personally a little too bitter.
Review by Christoph
The 1994 Enmore is the best of "the four" from the Guyana 2021 SBS release. The 1990 Uitvlugt is already too much over the zenith in comparison and the flavors are somewhat lost in the wood and the 2001 Skeldon is fruitier but not as balanced as this one. (Disclaimer: comparison on an extremely high level, as all 3 aforementioned rums are excellent). For 48.5%, the alcohol could be less present, but that's already forcible fault finding.

Had a nice evening with good friends and some nice S.B.S. bottles. What a lovely bottling. Once rested it releases the most wonderful flavours. Almost perfect balance between the individual flavours and I love the woody and roasted flavours. Nice and warm on the palate and the empty glass is very nice after a few hours.
Review by Maxence
Amazing color and nose. Mouth is unfortunately less balanced with a little too much wood and final is too bitterish. Without this, it could have been a 90+ rum. Still a really good one of course.
Review by Rene Pfeiffer
Great stuff. Beautifully complex and yet round. The initial bitterness on the palate disappears (almost) with time.In direct comparison with the Rumclub (RX11613) sweeter, softer and not as intense. On the nose, the SBS has less fruit and more tobacco and black tea.
Review by Aussierumfan
A lovely 1994 REV, very complex. Tobacco, Caramel and dark chocolate. Spicy. The empty glass smelt lovely the morning after😁 quite a lot of slightly musty wood with a long finish. Could still taste it an hour later!
Review by TheRhumhoe
A superb bottling from SBS, which manages to capture all the essence of Enmore REV 1994. Round, intense and elegant, the nose is marked by dried fruit (prunes, grapes), aromatic herbs (thyme) and black tea, accompanied by warm spices (licorice, cinnamon) and a delicate woodiness, followed by leather but without bitterness. Caramel, dark chocolate and tobacco season the olfactory profile with a healthy dose of gourmandise. No aggression is felt, but the aromas are exuberant. Dark, empyreumatic notes (smoky, roasted notes, Malta nuts and roasted hazelnuts), spices and woodiness compete with black tea and aromatic herbs to take control of the palate. Dried fruit is also present, but more subdued. The bitterness is felt on dark chocolate and coffee. The finish is superb, rather thin on the palate but very long, with dark, bitter notes and a hint of rubber at the end that upsets the balance of flavors. The profile is dry but also smooth and elegant, driven by dried fruits, warm spices and smoky oak. A superb rum that offers a veritable gustatory orgasm.

Beautiful old drop. Nose: spicy-woody-roasty-fruity. Sufficiently complex, despite the relatively low ABV. With more % one would not need to smell so fine into it. Besides the spicy-woody aromas with old, slightly dusty oak, sweetish tobacco and fine licorice, I find dried oranges, prune and black currant. Some pencil lead mixes in right at the start. It comes across as darkly toasty yet aromatically fresh. Palate: very nice full-bodied, intense and delicious. Lots of wood with wood acidity, slightly bitter, slightly salty, but all not distracting. Old oak with fragrant sandalwood along with licorice and some mint. Malty toasty, plus resinous and at the same time sweet tobacco. In the back over all some prune and dried cherry. Absolutely beautiful REV!

Blind tasting notes from RumX calendar day 8: The typical notes of a Guyana rum immediately come to mind when I smell it. On the palate, the full-bodied and intense rum is characterized by berry notes, chocolate, wood, glue and slightly bitter notes. I can also taste a hint of licorice. The alcohol is well integrated. I blindly estimated the ABV to be under 60%. I would not have guessed that it would only have 48%. I really like this rum and it's a lot of fun in the glass. A rarity, as the taste profile of rum from Guyana very rarely manages to inspire me.

An old Versailles always creates a lot of promise, and the color is very dark. The nose is reminiscent of Valle d'Aosta coffee, a blend of wood, coffee and orange. The palate is made up of old wood, prunes and burnt sugar, with a hint of chewed pencil, wet wood and graphite. You can smell the same ingredients in the empty glass. A rum that reminds me both of Valle d'Aosta's "copa del amicizia" for the nose and of school pencils for the taste.

RumX-Adventskalender 08.12.2023 Great piece! I thought this rum was more of a mild KFM with its slight bitterness. With a little more percentage it would even have broken through the 90-point barrier. For me, the best rum from the calendar so far.
Review by Basti
Lots of dried fruit (plum), roasted aromas, tobacco, wood and licorice on the nose. Nicely intense on the palate with spices, licorice, roasted aromas, wood, tobacco, leather, prunes, chocolate. Overall a little more on the bitter side. I still like it very much.

Very delicious S.B.S Typical Guyana Enmore notes in the nose which continues in the mouth. Finish is also classy enmore like. Last place of my Enmore tasting: Alcohol could be integrated better. Very bad value per money ratio…
Review by Tim
Complex nose and quite different to the Enmores of El Dorado. The nose is heavy in red fruits, smoke aromas (tobacco, charred), barrel and dark spices. Vanilla and caramel are found rather less here. In the mouth, finally, vegetable, woody and dark flavors dominate. Very long finish with black tea. Awesome, never had it before. Picks me up, even if it does not quite hit the mark.
Review by Mike H.
A very nice Enmore which is quite spicy and woody on the palate. There is a slight bitterness that isn’t disturbing but I substracted a couple of points because of it. Otherwise a brilliant rum.
Review by Djehey
A strong rancio character on the nose and palate. Old, dark and concentrated. Bitter but pleasant. Very long finish. Tasting it again: it still has a very strong "rancio" side. It smells and drips of damp, rotting wood and old mop... A side you've got to love!
Review by Vincent D
The color of this rum leaves no doubt as to the number of years it has spent in casks. Wood is omnipresent. Very bitter on the nose. Prunes and tobacco too. Sensations that are confirmed on the palate. Very woody and bitter. Without becoming a wood juice. Nice.
Review by Mentalo
The S.B.S bottling has only 48.5%. It loses some of its depth as a result, but is by no means watery. Otherwise it has everything you would expect from REV. However, I had it in direct comparison with Floral Rum . It clearly loses out there.

Day 8 RumX Calendar A very fine representative from Guyana, but it's not my taste profile at the moment, it's just too bitter for me. Maybe that will change again soon
Review by Piotr Ignasiak
RX calendar day 8 Rum is very well balanced and overall a great experience, but misses a punch, feels like a light version of a Demerara, despite a ton of barrel influence.
Review by Serge
On the palate rather woody 94 REV with bitter chain, smoke and herbs. Very good rum, but for me rather not a highlight REV
Review by mto75
Very round and balanced, there is a bit of everything, I find the tobacco notes on the palate particularly interesting.

Not quite in the same league with the RA, WP, VM 94!

#24DaysOfRum2023 - Day 8 The aroma starts opulent, immediately filling the room with wine cellar notes, accompanied with spices, walnut skins and hints of isobutanol. Undertones of twice-steeped black tea, pinetree, leather jacket and thyme. All shrouded in a layer of lemon marmelade and lots and lots of raisins. In the mouth a little subdued, less aggressive and more accessible than expected. Tasted a little light and watered down to me, but in this case that’s an advantage, because I’m not a fan of the overly dominant raisins on the nose. Here instead deep and dark structures of toasted cloves, licorice, chocolate and tobacco. Elegant sweetness and playfulness coming from citrus marmelade, maple syrup and a small bouquet of flowers. The finish is long and woody, with a nice chocolate and walnutty depth. It’s sweet, very sweet, and thus lasts forever. In most rums I find the nose to be more exciting than the palate, this is one of the rare cases where it’s the other way around for me.

For me from the four SBS Guyana bottlings from 2021 perhaps the weakest. The rum is certainly elegant and balanced - but not intense enough for my taste - perhaps it is also the strong tobacco and herbal note, which does not meet my taste. Nevertheless, a great rum! Impressive: Goes in the long finish again really up, an underlying fruit brings the spices again clearly out.
Review by Righrum
A great REV from 1994, this vintage has never disappointed me so far and this SBS is just another confirmation. The profile is driven by a lot of licorice, plus tea, prunes and a lot of leather. Simply amazing
Review by Double Barrel
I love these Anis seeds flavours i find in the Versailles still distillated Enmores. Subtle here amongst many other well balanced layers. My absolute reference being the Enmore 1990 by Moon Import that reminds me of those Anis de Flavigny, famous candies made by bénédictines nonnes. Forbidden pleasures!

Tasted against the SBS 2006 (RX11234) and SBS 1994 (RX9537). That one here is the most pungent of these 3 REVs, it's also the most wood forward. It has been my favorite out of the 3. On the nose, powerful amount of wood, tobbaco and a vegetal note (probably black tea or eucalyptus), caramel and dried plum are behind all that. It's incredibly dark and intense. On the palate, it's extremely woody but surprisingly balanced, there's no wood bitterness, it has a vegetal side to go it that reminds me of Trinidad rums. The final is very long, black tea again here and dried fruits. I love this one a lot!

... Enmore - drive distillery, now only a functional distillation device. Probably the only wooden distillation device in the world that enjoys great popularity. Enmore rums have flavors of ash, leather, heavy wood, which especially excites lovers of smoky whiskies. And if the producer adds a bit of molasses to the rum in the traditional Guyanese way, you have a unique, very distinctive, and heavy rum in the bottle. One of my favorites.

First colored Guyana rum that tastes very good to me. Intense, licorice, bitter, tobacco. Probably the best rum with less than 50% that I've ever had
Review by Harald
Color: Bright reddish brown Smell: Smells of licorice and caramel, dark chocolate and tobacco. Taste: Tobacco and especially endless licorice. A true licorice monster. Also chocolate, caramel, wood, spice and dried plum. Finish: Very woody with caramel and spice. 87 points

Calendar #8 / not blind A great drop and if you keep on drinking it is a 9.0. But after some time there appears a bitterness in the aftertaste which is lingering for a while and there fore it is only a solid 8.8 to me.
Review by Michal S
Good rum, but I'd want more from a 26-year-old Guyanese for the money. I smell prunes and black tea in the aroma, and tobacco in the taste. Quite bitter for my taste.

RumX Advent Calendar No.6: Excellent rum from Guyana. Very complex, not too bitter for me. An absolute recommendation.
Review by Buddudharma
RumX Advent calendar 08.12.23: I'm already back to Guyana. It would be interesting to compare it with yesterday's rum. It definitely seems more powerful, but at the same time there are more bitter notes. It's not easy for me to make an exact mark/age classification, but I'm more likely to go with Enmore or Versailles still, at least 10 years tropical, possibly considerably more. Edit: I would give today's rum a few more points than yesterday's...
Review by Gigi Balestra
Based on a generous sample - dark, woody, dried fruits (plums, berries, figs), some herbal/black tea aromas, small bitterness in the corners, dark chocolate. Spicy and tobacco-ish. Very round, complex, challenging. The integration of alchohol is great, but also thanks to the abv bellow 50%. Still, this does not affect the aromatic structure. Real beast. It lacks some finesse of the most superior Versailles (which are 95 to 97 in my book), but still remains a top tier REV. 94/100

Vintage 1994. With 9.2 out of 10, it is in the top five percent of everything I have tasted and rated.
Review by Alex1981
Solid REV, but not on the high levels of similar releases. Maybe it is the relatively low abv? 3rd place for tonight
Review by Dw117
Huge, truly dark rum. Predominant note is salty licorice of the dutch variation, named ‘drop’. Mouth-watering stuff. Eternal, dry finish of 90% chocolate, crème brûlée, and earl gray tea extract. At UK rumfest I was drinking ‘94 Enmore with Carsten of Scheer. That was CoR, though. Lovely chap.

So far the winner from the sbs Guyana quad pack. Full flavour with a significant black tea and liquorice flavour coming through. Really enjoyed this expression and left me wanting to explore more Versaille Still rums.
