It's amazing what four years in the barrel have conjured up in terms of intensity and complexity for a rhum. Typical agricole notes, grass, spiciness, herbs, fruit... with very well integrated alcohol. Great Agricole, unfortunately no longer available.

Tonight's "disappointment" in the sense that it didn't live up to the memory it had left me when I first tasted it. Good, but the aromatic intensity and length on the palate were far less than I remembered. A feeling confirmed by the friend at whose house I tasted it again... Is it because we've just opened the bottle? In any case, try again...

Wow, what an aroma. Dense, spicy wintry and great grassy sugar cane associations. Great, intense agricole. Amazing what 4 years of tropical aging can do. Absolute recommendation!

Wow, what an intense bouquet. And that with only 4 years of aging. Nose: intense, full-bodied, delicious. Dark fruit like blackberry and blackcurrant meet sweet, dried date with citrus marmalade and maple syrup. Behind that, fresh sour cherry and a hint of mint if you sniff a bit more deeply. I really like it. 8.9 Palate: there’s a lot going on. Bold and intense, spicy and fruity. At first, like so often with Agricole from Martinique, soap and violet. Then a light pepper with caraway and nutmeg, but these are immediately replaced by sweet tonka bean. Also has a slightly buttery texture like brioche. At the back, violet again and herbs with grass. 8.7 Great, intense Agricole that has a lot to offer for its young age of 4 years.

Very exciting and versatile nose without alcoholic sharpness. On the palate unmistakably an Agricole with balanced spice and barrel influence. The finish continues seamlessly, is quite dry, spicy and wood box. This Agricole I like but a bottle I must not have of it.

Agricole... I wouldn't have guessed that blind... I'm missing the vegetal markers... but nonetheless a good rum. And, I don't taste much of the Oloroso finish either... quite surprising. What stands out to me is a heavy sugarcane sweetness and spice. On the nose, I also perceived subtle esters. The finish is dominated by the spicy/woody side. And very late, a few vegetal aromas do appear.

Solid, young Agricole. Very high alcohol so it needs a lot of time in the glass. Then you are rewarded with plenty of licorice and sugarcane. For 130€ a nice taste experience with a rum that stays very straightforward in its direction.

Thinking about how much flavour they got into a 4 year old rum like this is astonishing. Very fruity with Agricole notes and vanilla. The cane comes sneaking in after a while alongside caramel and some nuts. The wood is also the without being dominant but more enhancing the overall prolile. Price to quality at release was really good in my mind.

Very tasty and surprisingly drinkable young Agricole with plenty of power. The alcohol could be slightly better integrated, but this is balanced out by an exciting complex aroma of green apple, caramel, pear, mint and citrus zest, as well as pleasant tannins. Above all, quite drinkable considering its young age!

Intense hazelnut aromas, fully ripe sweet tropical fruit notes, plus the classic Agricole profile - it works really well. It can linger a little in the glass, but then it is a very drinkable, accessible rum.

A fairly young Caribbean rum but it has a lot to say throughout this tasting. The nose is powerful on stewed exotic fruits, where passion fruit meets red apple compote still full of juice and acidity. The wood is well present with a rather young oak. The whole is quite spicy with kitchen spices that add complexity to the juice. The mouth is very expressive but the alcohol is well integrated despite a good warmth. The sugarcane is still well present. It's lucky this rum was not reduced. The palate follows the nose with the same complexity and a lot of balance, between wood and fruit. Normal, HSE makes good agricole rums as I like them: fruity, rich in aromas. The pepper is spicy, the exotic fruits are well present and continue on the finish. Too bad it's a bit light in length.

Beautiful HSE! I was dazzled to learn that this one carried just 4 years of age on its shoulders. Incredible quality and I was really lucky to find it at one of my wine shops for the introductory price. One of my best bargains this year. Highly recommended (if you can still find it) and it makes you dream of what else of the same or better quality you can find in the ali-babaian cellars of the HSE? An exciting rum.

The color is already mega. Very nice apricot touch. On the nose rather associations with green. Sugarcane, green pepper, gives a young impression. Quite strange, since the expectation from the color goes in a different direction. But quite good, even if for my taste it could come across a bit more expressive. On the palate then clearly more cask notes, caramel, sweetness from sugarcane, almost a bit toffee. And behind that then the agricole notes. I like the palate clearly better than the nose impression. Nice, quite long finish on all the aromas you also have on the palate. Very nice stuff. Color top notch, nose OK, palate a blast.

Very beautiful amber color. Very gourmand nose, first on cane, wood, a buttery caramel side then come tropical fruits, pineapple, mango... even a bit of apple. On the palate, you really feel the wood, leather, tobacco, but also the cane. The tropical fruits also come back then the peppery, spicy side... and it lasts, it lasts... A superb success for such a young rum.

Perfumed nose with oxidative notes, walnut, vin jaune and barrel. On the palate it's indulgent, without sugar the sensation is warm and caramelized and you find the walnut and the “good oxidation”. I also note flavors of Pedro Ximenez or another oxidative sweet wine. It's very balanced and very good!

Very nice balance. Note this spicy mouth on clove! Magnificent. For its age, it would deserve more than 90. I got a bit carried away but it's very good, big spicy peppery with a gourmand and floral power.

Intense and opulent. Great nose to begin with, the cask works very harmonic with the spirit. Overall it feels older than it actually is. Especially on the palate followed by the sweet, long and warm finish. A few drops of water are necessary to open up its full potential.

Very tasty. I love the HSE profile and here it's super fresh ubd floral. Nice spiciness on the palate and everything seems balanced and easy to drink. Alcohol sensationally integrated. I like it very much. Had it under observation for a long time. As was often the case last year, it was a little too expensive for me (4 years). Otherwise I would have liked to have had a bottle.

The whole package just fits perfectly. A beautiful wooden box, a nice bottle with a great label. Let it breathe in the glass for half an hour so the wonderful bouquet can unfold more. A great Agricole from Martinique with extensive complexity. A fantastic interplay of leather, cocoa, and tropical fruits. The alcohol is very well integrated. The 4 years the HSE spent in the Alligator Char Bourbon barrel bring a nice young wood note. Highly recommended.
